CLASS PROPHECY This morning as I awoke I realized this was a big day in my life. I looked over to see if my roommate, Carolyn Bissett, was awake but Isaw that she was still asleep. I got up and woke Carolyn and then we started to fix our breakfast. As we started cooking we talked of the big day ahead of us. And it really was going to be a big day, for today we were going to be passengers on the first space ship to the moon! We finished putting last minute articles in our bags and then started collecting our papers and magazines to read on the ship. We had bought newspapers from all the big cities in the United States so we could see if any of our high school friends were in the news. I went to the closet and got down our Senior Annual so I wouldn't forget a single person. As we left our apartment I thought about how lucky we were to be going on this trip. Ca- rolyn was especially fortunate to be going as the only nurse on the ship. And I was going to bring back a detailed report in shorthand on how the seats sat to my boss, the President of the Seat Sitters Company. As we arrived at the spaceport I noticed most of the other passengers were already inthe ship, so we hurried to our seat. It wasn't too long before we were out of sight of the earth and we settled back to look at newspapers. As I opened the first one I saw that the famous dancer Roland Turner had just ar- rived in Moscow, Russia to teach the Russians some of his very famous steps. His main purpose in this trip, the article said, was to better American rela- tions with Russia. As I looked down a little further on the page I saw that the famous woman scientist, Edith Gwaltney, had just returned from the Swiss Alps where she had been studying the snowfall. Then I turned over a few pages to the fashion page, where I sawa picture of a beautiful Dior creation. As Ilooked a little closer I suddenly realized the model was none other than our old friend Betty Jean Crocker. I turned to the advertisements then and saw a half page ad advertising the hottest cabs in town . Under that it said, Owner and manager, Ryland Johnson . I turned to Carolyn and told her whatl had already found out and asked her if she had found out anything. She said she had read that the famous multi-billionaire, Gerald Roberts, was now giving away a million dol- lars a week, tax free. Carolyn said the main headlines in the news now was the new law handed down by the Supreme Court forbidding people to smile. At the head of the Supreme Court was the newly appointed Ashburn Cutchin. To- gether we read in another newspaper that Lew Carr had just returned from Alaska where he had been hunting fleas for his flea circus. I looked at my watch and discovered that we had been reading for three hours so I suggested that we go get a drink. As we started walking down the aisle I noticed two familiar looking faces. I stopped to get a closer look and it was Carol Anne Wilson and Toni Young. Carolyn and I tooka seat next to them and asked what they were doing here. It seems they were going to teach the moon children English. Carol Anne asked us if we had seen Elliott Laine. She said he was on the ship and was going to the moon to hunt for uranium. 20
