The book deals with Central New York State's part in the revolution, stressing Onaquaqa as a base of operation for the Indians and' the Tories. A Originally her interest was not in writing -a book. As she puts 'itz I spent four years C1965-19693, with the Old Onaquaqa Historical Society.- My initial interest was directed toward an effort to get agstate historic site. I believed peopleof this area needed to know about their surround- ing area years ago. - M f ' Marjory, a librarian: and an active member in the Broome County Historical Society lias published two books for this organization. AQSALUTE TO. . - MRS. SHIRLEY HESS u BICENTENNIAL a We, the graduating class of '76, feel honored to have the oppor- tunity to dedicate our book to Mrs. Shirley Hess, a woman who has devoted herself to the field of American Studies, and the Bicenten- nial. .V ' Mrs. Hess has been Co-Chair-.Person of the Broome County Bicentennial Commission for a'year..lThis volunteer work isa natu- ral for her because ,of her teaching experience. The Broome County Bicentennial Commission is verylfactive in organizing thefcelebration of the 200th birthday of the U.S.A. Mrs. Hess workedon the presentation of the musical play '21'?fl6,,: ' which the 'Commissionpresented atlthe 'Forum in December. -She has also beencoordinating a project to honor women -from each town in Broome County as Women of the Bicentennial Year. Much of her work is unsung because it involves meetings and con- ferences which do not have anyimmediate result that the public can see. . Mrs. Hess is looking forward to the events of this summer: the Broome County.Parade on July 3, Festival '76 in the Arena and the development of the Otsiningo Indian-'site north of Binghamton. Mrs. Hess said there are going to be many significant- programs for Broome County residents this year and the Broome! County Com- mission will be playing an important role in this. ' There will be local community celebrations and Mrs. Hess will be involved in them through the County Commission, and the Deposit Historical Society. She 'is President of the Deposit Histori- cal Society and Co-Chairman of the Deposit Bicentennial Com- mittee. She is very committed to all of these organizations-. Mrs. Hess thinks that much-involvement makes life foreveryone more meaningful. Mrs. Shirley Hess has been teaching at Windsor for 15 years. She is a member of the Social Studies 'department and her specialty is American Studies, which 'she truly enjoys teaching. Mrs. Hess' unsung involvement and- work is recognized by the class of '76, and we are appreciative to her for all the work she has done for the Bicentennial year., ' L -Kelly Robson ' ' ' S .5 N , :Q l ' ' l it I 1 . 1 ! .ns T H 'lui ' Ig' ', v' - N ' -L. .h - Lf 1- 'vs Y , .
