SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS As we are at the end of our path through high school, we are starting down an even bigger path. Some will take the path to education, others to marriage, or even on to work, but our prayers are with everyone. Our years at WAHS have been full of learning, laughter, and friend- ships. These years will remain in our hearts and minds forever. The class of 1985 wishes the underclassmen and the senior class of 1986 the best of luck. 8 Best wishes to the class of 85 . NATHALIE FOURMONT For the past year Nathalie Fourmont has become a part of Windom Area High School. Her home is Paris, France, but for her stay in Amer- ica, she is living with the Charles Miller family. Reading and listening to music are some of Nathalie's favorite hobbies, along with writing letters home. Nathalie's father works for General Foods, and her mother is an engi- neer. Phillippe is Nathalie's 21 year old brother, and the only other child in the family. The weather in Minnesota is quite similar to that of Paris. Although it does snow in France, it melts right away and the wind isn't as strong as the wind here in Windom, Minnesota. Nathalie's favorite American food is ice cream and the best movie she's seen since her stay is Ghostbusters . In France, Nathalie has gone to both a public school and a private school. She says with a smile, Public school is more fun . After she finishes one more year at a public school, Nathalie plans to attend college. Nathalie, it's been great having you here and we extend our best wishes to you for the future. 21 ASTA HOFTUN Asta Hoftun comes to us from Gol, Hallingdal, Norway. A town which is about the same size as Windom. Asta's family in Norway consists of her father and mother who own a vacation resort and her two older brothers ages 22 and 25, she also has one younger sister age 14. Asta is staying with the Omar Amundson family. Her favorite classes are Speaking for Fun and Choir. School in Norway is a lot stricter and they don't have any lockers. Her favorite sports here include volleyball and skiing. Asta's hobbies are doing aerobics, playing the organ, dancing, swimming, and traveling. She has already been to New York, Wiscon- sin, Iowa, and North Dakota. She is also a Girl Scout Leader in Norway. Her favorite music is played by Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson. Asta's favorite foods include corn on the cob and walleye with Rita's apple pie and ice cream. Asta has really enjoyed her time in the United States and we hope she has learned a lot about American people and their way of life. We hope she'll come back and visit us soon. 22 NENITA MIANA She comes to us from the city of Manila, the capitol of the Philippines. Her name is Nenita Miana, or as everyone calls her, Neitz . Her hometown of Manila, has a population of 1.5 million people. Nenita says that's quite a bit of difference compared to Windom. However, Nenita also comments that Windom is very nice and very quiet. Nenita's family in Manila consists of her father, Romeo, who is assistant chief of a Levi Strauss manufacturing company. Her mother, Enriqueta, is an English teacher. She also has 2 brothers, Rodel, 19, Ariel, 11 and 1 sister, Julieta, who is 14. Some of Nenita's hobbies include, cooking, writing, dancing, and making new friends. She enjoys steak and cookies, and her favorite TV program is The Love Boat and Different Strokes . Compared to the schooling system in the Philippines, Nenita says that school here is much more difficult. However, she does have a favorite class, which is English. Nenita's plans for the future are to either go into dentistry or medicine. When asked what she thought of America, all she could say was, Wow! We've enjoyed having Nenita stay in Windom, as well as her host family. Nenita's American family are her parents, Hilary and Rosemary, and her sister, Rhonda Tauer. We wish Nenita the best of luck in the future!! 23 PAIGE SUNDERMAN-SECRETARY; BRIAN FLATGARD-PRESIDENT; LEAH DIEMER-VICE PRESIDENT. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS With the excitement of another year, all juniors look eagerly ahead to what the future may hold. Thoughts of the future often bring on memories of the past. GOLDEN EAGLE The school year has been very productive. We sold pizzas again for our main fund raiser. The annual Band Carnival and raffle was a great success. The money raised from these projects will be put toward a major trip in the future. The guest clinician this year was Larry Mallet from Gustavus Adolphus College. He had alot to offer in two days. The band always benefits from these clin- ics. Our concerts and contests included: The Fall Band Showcase in November, District Large Group Con- test and Clinic in March, Small Group Contest in April, Pops Concert, Graduation, and the Band and Choir Banquet in May. Thanks to Mr. Gospeter, the band sounded great this year. 78 Row 1: M. Even, K. Gross, S. Imhoff, J. Bockelmann, S. Mau, K. Sunderman. Row 2: K. Olson, L. Sweigard, j. Skarpol, K. Lillegaard, L. This special week was of course our 1984 Fall Homecoming. Things got off to a shaky start, however the whole school participated in Monday's event, as it was Nothing Day. Tuesday the halls were filled with geeky clothes and dorky laughs, as a few brave people participated in Nerd Day. The jello snarfing contest was also held during our lunchshifts. Picture Day was on Wednesday for all underclass- men. Thursday we were invaded by the mafia. Trench coats and dark glasses dominated our hall- ways. The awesome volleyball team went into a tough homecoming match against Fulda, in which they were defeated. Friday was the big day. Coronation started at 8:15, and everyone looked really nice, including our 10 candidates. Getting us through the ceremony was our master and mistress, Terry Morfittand Sandi Grams. The new 1984 Fall Homecoming King and Queen are Troy Osland and Patti Zinck. The other candidates should be congratulated and given special credit. The royal court included our queen candidates. Sue Grandprey, Karen Minion, Linda Sweigard, and Shannon Schmidt. King Candidates are, John Miller, Joel Frederickson, Bryan Ysker, and Brian Holmes. That night was the homecoming football game be- tween our fabulous Eagles and the Jackson Bluejays. The Bluejays prevailed with the win. A dance featur- ing The Fact followed the game. This homecoming was very special for many people and seemed to have been a great success. 109 WINTER HOMECOMING The 1985 Winterfest Homecoming was held the week of February 11-15th. Monday was grub day and sign a T-shirt day. Slobs and magic markers seemed to be the big thing. Be a baby was appropriate for Tuesday, as it was pajamas and sucker day. Sleek shieks were coming from all over the world to take part in Wednesday's activity, Arab day. If you're in love, then Thursday was your day. Since it was Valentine's Day, the colors of red and white were seen everywhere. Thursday was also a big day, because the coronation ceremony took place. At 2:30 things started to hap- pen. Our Winterfest MC's were Troy Osland and Patti Zinck. Our royal court consisted of our queen candidates Kathy Woizeschke, Sandi Grams, Sherry Imhoff, and Pam Rosin, and king candidates Kent Elness, Darrell Thiner, Paul Byam, and Terry Morfitt. The 1985 Winterfest King and Queen were Scotty Johnson and Kelly Sunderman. Following the big day was the homecoming basket- ball game between our awesome Eagles and the Redwood Falls Cardinals. After the game, The Fact got us all rocking out to their great music. This homecoming was a lot of fun and will be remem- bered by all. in JUNIOR CLASS PLAY The 1984 junior class play was Tom Sawyer , which was an adaption of the Mark Twain classic. The play consisted of a series of short scenes from Tom Saw- yer's life. We would like to give a special thanks to our direc- tors Larry Schloer and Keith Lorasch. Although the play came in fourth in extremely tough competition, it was a crowd favorite. Directed by Mr. Lindaman, the play cast was made up of actors - John Miller, Joel Kansanback, and Tim Havican; actresses - Joyce Baerg, Teri Hedquist and Patti Zinck. Kjel Turner worked the lights and Nenita Miana served as student director. Eight plays from District Seven competed at the con- test at Mountain Lake on Saturday, January 26th. 113
