SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS As our days at WAHS are coming to an end, we find a new challenge ahead of us. We will be leaving the school, but we will always carry the memories of our school years with us. The four years at WAHS have been great. The pride we have for our school is strong and we hope it will continue after we have gone. The class of 1984 would like to thank WAHS for all you have given us. It was alot of fun participating in varsity sports for the first time. The classes were a little more difficult, but we ex- pected that, and were redy for it. We had a great time planning for the Prom, and we're glad it turned out as well as it did. We will miss not seeing our '84 senior class next year, but we hope that the senior class of '85 will prove that we are indeed the class with drive, 1985! 26 THE JUNIOR CLASS PLAY The 1983 junior class play was Dark Deeds at Mother McGoof ......................Patti Zinck Swan's Place or Never Trust a Tatooed Sailor . It has a population of 2 million compared to Windom's population of only 5,000. Living in Windom is quite different for Bettina than living in Berlin. Not only is Windom alot smaller, but it is colder here in the winter and hotter and more humid in the summer. Bettina's German family includes her mother, who works in a big bank, her father, who is a policeman in Berlin, and her 11 year old brother. She is staying with the Neil and Joyce Erickson family here in Windom. She has 2 sisters, Sherri and Ellie, and a brother, Paul Hauschild. Her favorite classes in school are Basic Programming, Spanish and choir. Unlike her school in Germany, the school days here are alot longer but the education is easier. In Germany you cannot pick your own classes. She likes the way we can pick our classes here at WAHS. Bettina has participated in girl's basketball, choir, the one act play, speech club, Spanish club and declam. Her hobbies include volleyball, writing letters, foreign languages, and traveling. She also enjoys knit- ting. Bettina has really enjoyed her year in Windom. She feels she has a better understanding of life and of the United States. She hopes to return in the future. 32 We are very happy to have Bettina share her year with us and we wish her the best of luck in whatever she does. MARCEL STOLL Viernheim, West Germany is the home of Marcel Stoll. Win- dom must seem small compared to his home town which has a population of 30,000. In Germany, Marcel lives with his mother. She is a secretary at the University of Mannheim. He is living with the Terry and Karen Fredin family in Windom. The Fredin's have two chil- dren, Kris and Bill. Marcel likes Windom and thinks the people are very nice. He also likes the cold Minnesota weather. It does not get as cold in Germany as it does here. The classes required in Germany are different than in Windom. He has to take German, math, physics, biology, chemistry and social in Germany. Marcel was a member of the football team during his stay here. The students and faculty of WAHS would like to thank Marcel for spending this year with us. We send with him our best wishes for the future. 33 LEANNE WESSELS-VICE-PRESIDENT; MARREE ROSSOW-PRESIDENT; BRIAN FLATCARD-SECRETARY. THE SOPHOMORE CLASS Becoming a sophomore brings with it more responsibility. One of those responsibilities is driving. Seeing your classmates be- hind the wheel of a car is really different. Getting your drivers license reminds many of us that there is only two years of high school left and we should make them our best. We also got our class rings this year. They made many of us think about our past accomplishments and failures. They also made us think about the future and the goals we want to achieve. 34 Good luck to the class of '86! GOLDEN EAGLE Before the school year, the band took a trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming. While we were there, we participated in two pa- rades. The Chairman's choice award was our prize. The band also had time to take in a rodeo and some sightseeing in Colorado and South Dakota. The school year has been very productive. We sold pizzas again for our main fund raiser. The annual Band Carnival and raffle was a great success. We all put alot of work and effort into these projects. The guest clinician this year was Don Gjerdrum of Burnsville, Mn. He had alot to offer in those two days. The band always benefits from these clinics. Our concerts and contests included: The Fall Band Showcase in December, District Large Group Contest in March, Clinic and Small Group Contest in April, the Pops concert, Gradu- ation, and the Band and Choir Banquet in May. GOLDEN EAGLE The 1983-84 Eagle Choir started out the year with a new director, Keith Lorasch. We learned alot from him and it has been a productive year. The first event the choir had was the annual Southwest Choral Fest on October 29 in Luverne. We got to sing in a mass choir under the direction of Dr. Paul Brandvik. It was a fun day. The month of November held two events. The first of which was the annual Chili Supper on November 15. It was a great success. The second was the KEYC Sounds of Christmas taping on November 30. Due to bad weather we taped on December 2 instead. The tape was aired December 3. All the choirs were featured in the Christmas concert De- cember 18. The performances of all the choirs were excellent. The Clinic concert was April 6 and 7. Dr. Gregory Vancil of Eau Claire, Wisconsin had alot to share with us. The choir has had a productive year. We would like to thank Mr. Lorasch for his time and patience. The seniors wish the best of luck to all next year. 82 Row 1: P. Hauschild, L. Nagorske, B. Larson, J. Ward, B. Polesky, M. Schroeder, K. The excitement and anticipation began the week of September 26. Monday was a day in which everyone participated. Hat, shades and sucker day was the day the Foster Grants and lucious lollies dominated. Tuesday, we saw alot of grease, leather and of course the white bobby socks, as it was Fifties Day. During the lunch shifts was the all time favorite banana eating contest. Too bad Don Ho was not here on Wednesday, because it was Hawaiian Day. Although he was not here in person, the cooks provided us with his music while we were dining. Thursday was jersey Day. The volleyball team prevailed with a win over Fulda. September 30 at 8:15 the big day began. We were all excited about the crowning of the king and queen. Getting us through the ceremony was our master and mistress of ceremonies, Bret Raverty and Jodi Sacks. The homecoming theme was Don't Let it End . There was plenty of entertainmnet and everyone seemed to enjoy it. The 1983 Fall Homecoming king and queen were Scott Kuecker and Lori Jackson. All the candidates should be given special credit. The queen's attendents were Heather Florine, Colleen Tasler, Laurie Voshage, Paula Winkel and Kris Yonker. The king's attendants were Ben Byam, Jon Diemer, Mike Giefer, Paul Hauschild, and Tim Hayenga. That night we had the Fall Homecoming football game with Redwood Falls. The Golden Eagle Marching Band performed during half-time, featuring the flag and rifle corps with a rou- tine to Hang 'Em High . After the game there was a dance featuring The Red Ball Jets . Everyone really enjoyed this special homecoming. Ill WINTER HOMECOMING ROYALTY WINTER HOMECOMING Only Time Will Tell' was this year's Winterfest theme and the feeling of everyone throughout the school. The busy week's activities started with warm-up day on Mon- day. Tuesday was bandana day. Codes were given each hour as to where the bandana was to be worn. The next day was Eagle Day, having everyone dressed in the latest eagle clothing and accessories. The theme was punk for Thursday, and we witnessed some outrageous combinations in clothing. The ever favorite intramural vs. faculty basketball game was held on Thursday. Air jamming was the half time entertainment. Coronation started an exciting Friday. Scott Kuecker and Lau- rie Voshage kept things running smoothly as the Master and Mistress of ceremonies. Some great entertainment was pro- vided and the big moment arrived when Timm Gronseth was crowned king and Mari Haugen reigned as queen, jodi Sacks, Anne Foley, Dawn Knorr, Patty Hansen, Bret Raverty, Dave Derickson, Todd Hedquist and Lane Steele made up the royal court. Girl's basketball, gymnastics and wrestling all had games that week. The excitement came Friday when the boys basketball team defeated the Marshall Tigers. Half time entertainment was provided by the flag and rifle teams. Altar Ego gave us some good music to dance to after the game. Thanks to all who put in the hard work to make 1984 Winter- fest a success! 113 ONE ACT PLAY The Taming of the Shrew was Windom's One Act Play this year. This play involved the following charac- ters: Petruchio-Mark Brodin, Katherina-Bonnie Po- lesky, Baptista-Paul Hauschild, Bianca-Lisa Strunk, Lu- centio-Joel Kansanback, Maria-Colleen Tasler, Horten- sio-Mark Brodin, Biondello-Lane Steele, Grumella-Bet- tina Konientzny. The student director was Kenny Stahl. Marcel Stoll helped with lighting. The play was directed by Mr. Lindaman. The play is centered around Baptista trying to find a husband for his eldest daughter, Katherina. However, being a shrew, Katherina is not exactly popular with the men. Petruchio is determined to tame her and make her his wife. To the amazement of everyone, he accom- plishes that task and they are wed. Windom didn't place in the competition this year.
