These three teachers have given a tota- of 92 years to the education of students. David Campbell began his teaching career in 1950 in Windom, but before he could complete the year, he was drafted and spent two years in the Adjutant General's School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He returned to Windom in 1953 and taught various mathematics courses and business courses. James Griffin started his teaching career in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Later, he taught in Medford, Iowa, and came to Windom in 1956. He taught a variety of courses — English, German, psycology, and social studies. In 1951, Robert Hofflander started his teaching career in Blackduck, Minnesota. He came to Windom in 1954 and taught various science courses and was instrumental in the development of the school's environmental center. He was the director of the center for many years. The class of '83 says thank you for your service and dedication to the students of Windom. Good luck to each of you! SECRETARY-JILL BREGEL; VICE PRESIDENT-DAN FLATGARD; PRESIDENT-JODIE SELL. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Our senior year has been filled with many memories that will be cherished forever. Now it is time for us to go out and find our place in the world. We will always remember the great times at Windom Area High School. Throughout the four years we have learned much. We excelled in athletics and displayed our leadership. We hope the under- classmen will continue in these ways and maintain the Eagle's pride. We will miss walking the halls of Windom Area High School. We give our best wishes to those who follow after us. We hope they find success. BEST WISHES TO THE CLASS OF 1983! 8 T.G.I.F!!!!!! She has a younger brother, Paul, who is 13 years old. The climate of Sidney, Australia is much warmer and it does not get below freezing. The Minnesota winter is a new experience for Michelle. In Windom Michelle is staying with the Ron and Jan Sampson family. The Sampsons have four children- Toni, Julie Barry, and Tom. Over the Labor Day weekend, Michelle took a trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. She enjoyed it very much. Windom's high school is much easier than her Australia high school. In Windom, there are many more course offerings for the students. Also in Australia there are a few extra-curricular activities offered by the school. Most of the time is spent studying. Michelle's favorite subjects are mathematics and science. After graduation, Michelle plans to pursue a college education in a math or science related area. In Windom Area High School, Michelle is a member of the Eagle choir and a manager on the girl's basketball team She is also a participant in the Windom Independent Study Group. Michelle enjoys playing ''tennis and squash, which is similar to racquetball. Her favorite movie is Man From Snowy River. Michelle is looking forward to graduation exercises in Windom because in Australia they do not have any. The Class of 1983 wishes the best of luck to Michelle in her future plans. It has been a pleasure to have you as part of our graduating class. MICHELLE HADLEY Olli comes from Pori, Finland, which has a population of about 80,000. His father is an engineer and his mother works in a bank. Olli has a sister, Leena, who is 22 years old. The climate of his homeland is very similar to Minnesota. The wind in Minnesota blows more than it does in Finland. Olli is used to cold winter. In Windom Olli is staying with Robert and Colleen Erbes family. The Erbes have two children Mike, Peggy and also one dog named Sugar. Olli enjoyed a new sport this fall, he went deer hunting. He was successful in getting a deer. Olli enjoys hunting and collecting guns and rifles. In Finland hunting moose is his favorite. Olli says Windom is Quite a change form what he is used to, since it is so small, but he says, It is nice. In his school in Finland, there are very few extra curricular activities. Most activities take place outside of the school. Olli was a member of the cross-country team in Windom. Olli's favorite subject is advanced recreation. When Olli returns to Finland, he plans on going to a junior college and then to a technical college for a degree in engineering. Olli's favorite food is steak. And he enjoys watching football. His favorite movie was Poltergeist. The class of 1983 wishes Olli the best of luck in the future. It has been an honor for us to have you spend a year with us and to become acquainted with you and your country. OLLI LAHTINEN PAUL HAUSCHILD - PRESIDENT; PATTY ANSEN - SECRETARY; SCOTT KUECKER - VICE-PRESIDENT THE JUNIOR CLASS The junior year for the class of '84 has been an exciting one. The classes have become more challenging, and par- ticipating in varsity sports for the first time was exciting. Planning prom was alot of work, but it was also alot of fun. We hope it will be a big success. We send best wishes along with the seniors as they gra- duate. We will miss them, for they are our friends. 28 Make way for the awesome class of 1984!! THE JUNIOR CLASS PLAY This years junior class play was Finders Creep- ers , a mystery comedy. It was about the antics of two young boys, Hercules Nelson and Wilbur Maxwell. They find out too late that they are stay- ing in a mortuary for the weekend. The boys turn detectives when they meet a dead Mr. Quigley, who really isn't dead. We had alot of fun doing the play and we hope everyone enjoyed it. Special thanks to our directors Mr. Schloer and Ms. Petersen, and to our student directors Mari Haugen and Patty Hansen for all their work. WILBUR MAXWELL HERCULES NELSON CELESTE NELSON . . His mother is a secretary and his father is a traveling sales agent for a company that furnishes hotel rooms. He has 3 brothers and a sister. Nils who is 15, Soren who is 10, Timothy who is 17, and Tilde who is 16. Timothy is living in California. Windom is quite a change from the big city that Lars lived in, but the climate is much the same. He says there is not much to do here, but it is a nice town. In Windom Lars lives with the Wes Winkel family. They have 4 children, Wayne, Paula, Cheryl, and Kris. The family took a trip to Missouri in November to see Wayne's graduation from basic training. Lars enjoyed the trip, but says he does not think much of our army. In school Lars is a member of the basketball team. This is kind of a new experience for him. They do not have many extra-curricular activities within the school system in Denmark. Lars has a variety of tastes in music. They range from classical to New Wave. His favorite song is Oxygen. It is a musical piece using synthesizers. Lars says the best movie he has seen in the U.S. was The Deer Hunter. Lars favorite subjects are pre-accounting and art; he says his least favorite is algebra. One of the things he will miss the most are the Christmas traditions. In Denmark they use the same customs each year, which are the same through out Denmark. When he finishes school, Lars would like to go on to a business school and possibility work for a big company in the import-export business. The students and faculty of Windom Area High School would like to thank Lars for spending this year with us and send him our best wishes for the future. We spend early morning hours in the summer and play pep band for sporting events. It also means giving concerts, marching for the half time show of cold football games and marching to a strong drum beat in the hot sum- mer months. Pep music was most enjoyed by the band mem- bers including the all time favorite Superstar and N.F.L. Today . The band has planned to take a trip this summer. Our sichts are set on Cheyenne, Wyoming. There we will be marching in a couple of parades for Frontier Days. Each year the band has a carnival to raise money for trips and other things. This year it was held on February 5. We raffled off an Atari Computer Sys- tem and a radio cassette recorder. All members of the Eagle and Gold band participate to make it a very festive occasion. The band this year also sold Wholesale Pizza Kits to raise money for the trip. We sold them faithful- ly every six weeks and tne sales went very well. The senior members would like to wish the future bands good luck in future banacompetition. Row 1: K. Woizeschke, K. Keffeler, G. Heibert, A. Vought, A. Arness, K. Bauer, J. Anderson. Row 2: D. The trip to KEYC was interesting and a special thank you to Paul Hauschild for helping us out. Our spring clinic concert was great with Dr. Mark Aamot from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis- consin as our guest clinician. Contest gave good ratings with the songs being challenging. We look forward to next year with optimism and the coming of new voices to fill the places that the seniors will leave. 76 Row 1: D. Franz, L. Steele, S. Bacon, K. Keffeler, A. Schmidt, J. Many new wrestlers participated in 1982-1983 and there was much individual success. Team scores were not really kept this year as we rarely had over three or four kids in the lineup. The participants of the group have shown great interest and promise for next years squad. Mnoh T™igenv gV. T nB k g,r K Pau,son' M8r- p Hansen, R. Nelson. Row 2: K. Walinga, W. Ihrke, A. Vought, C. The fun started on Monday with T-shirt or Jer- sey day and the ever popular root beer chug during lunch. That night was the powderpurf football game in which players showed great abili- ty, the coaches showed levelheaded play making, and the cheerleaders did some awesome cheers. On Tuesday, the school looked like a farmstead as it was Farmer Day . Everyone had fun looking like farmers for the day. It was quiet on Wednesday because it was Rib- bon Day . If a guy talked to a girl, or vice versa, they had to give them their ribbon. Some people did not keep theirs very long! Good ol' fashioned grub day was Thursday's theme. Everyone wore old grubby clothes or styles from the years past. Noon hour brought the 2nd annual marshmellow push. Many sports events took place this week. Tennis lost to Tracy; volleyball defeated Pipestone; cross- country participated in the Eagle invitational. We all were looking forward to Friday. People dressed their best and watched the coronation. Sally Torkelson and Mark Olsen were the Master ana Mistress of ceremonies. Queen Jill Bregel and King Todd Mueller reigned over the day's festivities. The Queen's attendants were Allison Arness, Wendee Ihrke, Laura Jessen, and Jodi Sell. Attendants to the king were Jim Albers, Dan Flatgard, Richard Hanson, and Bill Hartman. The football team was victorious that night, beat- ing Sleepy Eye St. Mary's 26-0. After the game was the dance featuring Crossfire . Thanks to every- one for making this homecoming a success. 108 WINTER HOMECOMING V Winterfest 1983 was held on February 11. The festivities got off to a good start on Monday with Warm-up Day. The students dressed up in warm-up suits. Tuesday was labeled Punk Day . Many students par- ticipated, it was a very silly and fun day for ail. Each of our winter sports teams had events this night. The boy's basketball team enjoyed a victory over Jackson by a score of 55-44. The gymnasts also came up with a win over Luverne. The wrestlers and girl's basketball teams were not as fortunate they were both defeated. On Wednesday everyone wore red and white, the school resembled a big valentine card. Thursday we enjoyed Originality Day. It was the stu- dents day to be themselves. The last 15 minutes of the school day was devoted to student versus teacher com- petition. The competitions included Ping Pong, free throws, and arm wrestling. Coronation was held at 8:15, Friday morning. Heart Attack was the theme chosen by the students. The candidates chosen for queen were Kris Frantsen, Jolene Mayden, Teri Steinberg, LeeAnn Sunderman, and Lyn- da Voth. For King, the candidates chosen were Paul Adamson, Mark Olsen, Rex Potter, Larry Remund, and Joe Torkelson. The new King and Queen were Rex Potter and Teri Steinberg. Congratulations go out to them. Teri gave an exceptional performance bv knock- ing down tne decorative fence, all these little things aaded to the excitement of the moment. Our mistress and master of ceremonies were Miss Su- san Hansen and Dave Corey. They did their best to keep the crowd laughing. The boy's basketball team barely missed a win over Luverne Friday night with a score of 43-46. The homecoming dance followed the game, featuring Orien. The decorations really added to make it a wonderful occasion. The girl's basketball team ended the homecoming fes- tivities with a loss to Fairmont with a score of 43-29. ONE ACT PLAY An abridged form of 'Twelfth Night' was Windom's One Act Play this year. This play involved the following characters: the Duke-Todd Mueller, Olivia-Karen Niel- sen, Viola-Kris Harrington, Sebastion-Larrv Remund, Fabian-Paul Hauschild, Sir Toby-Mark Brodin, Sir An- drew-Mark Lober, Maria-Bonnie Polesky, Malvolio- Paul Adamson. Others involved in the production of the play are: Dan Davidson and Kathy Bauer-student directors, Kenny Stahl-lights, Jolene Mayden-cos- tumes, Joyce Baerg-makeup. The play was directed by Mr. Lindaman. In the play Viola dresses as a man to serve the Duke, who is in love with Olivia. Olivia does not want any- thing to do with the Duke, but falls in love with Viola- (who is playing a man). Malvolio comes on the scene wanting Olivia, who wants nothing to do with him ei- ther. The play ends with Sebastion, Viols's twin brother, coming to the island and marrying Olivia. Viola then marries the Duke. Windom placed second out of eight plays that entered. The cast did an outstanding performance. They worked hours preparing for the competition, and a great time was had by all. 110
