tofVfUk SENIORS FACULTY UNDERCLASSMEN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS SCHOOL LIFE PAGES 7-27 PAGES 30-42 PAGES 43-56 PAGES 57-84 PAGES 85-104 PAGES 105-112 ‘ HM 1 r mr The class of 1975 wishes to dedicate this year's Eagle to Lynn Becker who would have graduated with us May 29, 1975. Once upon a time when our class first met we laughed and thought tomorrow was forever. But that was then, and this is now. Today we realize that forever is here and tomorrow breathes uncertainty. Despite our individuality we are linked by the common bond of all our years together. Each has shared smiles and tears, glories and failures, dreams and anxieties, growing when our goals collided and changing slightly every time our lives touched in passing. Your influence cannot be erased. So friend, as we near the end of the beginning though we each turn separate ways and the past itself becomes a memory You will remain a part of us always. Through our knowl- edge of one another, we can face the future with confidence. With years of preparation behind us, we step forward bravely and wait impatiently to inherit the earth. There is no going back. It is our turn to improve the world for each other, to seize our dreams and change them to reality. We can be the generation forever remembered for its wisdom. We are free; we are young; we have hope. Ideals will be achieved because we love and strive together. We are tomorrow. The class of '75 chose a red rose as their class flower and the class colors are royal blue and ivory. 8 HEY LOOK, THE BUS DRIVER'S MOVING US! GUESS WHO? ! 26 OYSTEIN MAGNUS ALBERTSEN Another Norwegian in in our midst! He usually attends the Sortland Gymnas and is known as Oystein Magnus Albertsen. Oystein (Or Magnus, for those of you who just can- not pronounce his first name) is spending a year with the Dr. Lee Peterson family. This Norseman can usually be identified by his flaming red hair, big grin, bright blue eyes sometimes framed by glasses, and a camera around his neck. Our new exchange student is a devoted photogra- pher. He is most likely to be found hiding away devel- oping his pictures and trying new techniques with a camera. In fact, this interview was taken in our WAHS dark room! However, do not for a moment be deceived into thinking that Oystein is a mild-mannered camera freak who is only happy when tucked away in the darkness. No! For one of Oystein's other hobbies is ski jumping. With the fortitude of a Viking, he soars into the wild blue yonder in his spare time. He boasts a record, after all these years, of never once having broken a bone or a ski in these exploits. He is also interested in his church (he's Lutheran), singing and all kinds of sports. When asked how he liked American football he replied enthusiastically, It's stupid, but funny'! How does he like WAHS? I love it! School is easier and the teachers are friendly. It's a really good school! Oystein is in the social science branch of school at the Gymnas. He takes classes such as public science, psychology and economics. You can compare our school to a Junior College here, he says. He will have one year left when he returns-if he ever leaves. Hamburgers and corn are his favorite foods, but this Norwegian finds root beer to be horrible. He also can't get used to the chlorine in Windom's water. When asked of his impressions of Windom he an- swered, Windom's a nice place - I only wish I could say it in Norwegian I could say it better then. I don't miss the mountains, because I didn't ex- pect them here. Actually, Oystein doesn't miss home. I'm not homesick at all. I don't feel so far away from home. As for a general comment on the antics of Amer- icans, he notes, Americans are as crazy as people in Norway! Oystein's views on the future are simple. I guess I'm a little lazy. I don't care what I'm going to do. It's a part of my faith in God ... I AM THE PRESIDENT!! WELL BOYS, ITS TIME FOR ONE OF THOSE TALKS AGAIN. FIVE-FOOT-TW0; EYES ARE BLUE. We have worked hard and put forth our best efforts in school, as well as taking on extra-curricular activities. We have gone through the many changes that must be included when progressing through high school. We are being molded more and more into adult- hood, and our achievements give examples of this. We'll never forget our hard work and worries on the Jr. and Sr. Prom, or the fun we had showing our talents at the Jr. Class Play. We take pride in our brand new and adventuresome volley- ball team and our dedication and skill that has made us successful in all our sports. We feel that we've taken a big stride forward. There will always be the memories and friendships and the-warmth of the past, but we are also eagerly looking forward to a great Senior year and future. 44 JUNIOR CLASS PLAY This year's Jr. Class Play will perhaps go down in history as one of the funniest plays to hit the stage at WAHS. See How They Run was a fast-moving rib-tickling English comedy. The setting was a vicarage in England around the end of World War II. The vicar goes out for the evening to play the piano for a group of Glee Singers. Meanwhile at the vicarage an old actor friend of the vicar's wife comes comes to visit her. While they are preparing (he dresses in a vicar's suit to prevent gossip) to go see a play they were once in together, they do a fight scene from the play. As they are struggling on the floor, a proper old maid, a member of the church enters and naturally is aghast. From then on it's a case of many mistaken identities. A bishop, an escaped Russian spy, and another vicar enter into the picture adding to the hilarious chaos and confus- ion. The people that helped on all the committees were as important as the performers. The play couldn't have been put on without them. The cast was as follows: Ida (a mischievous cockney maid)-----Kathy Reid Miss Ski I Ion (old maid)-Julie Abild Rev. Lionel Toop (the distressed vicar)---Tom Mielke Penelope Toop (the vicar's wife, a former American actress)-----Deb Stevens Corporal Clive Winston (actor-friend of Penelope, now soldier)--Mike Anderson Russian Spy (escaped from the guardhouse)----Steve Nelson Bishop Dudley of Lax (sedate uncle of Penelope)----Kevin Miller Rev. Arthur Humphrey ( come to take the service tomorrow )—Ron Hooge Police Sergeant Towers ( not very quick on the uptake )--Randy Knuth Glee Singers----Mary Rick, Scott Holman, Bob Hanson, Sonja Amundson, Renady Lowe, Tom Beihoffer, Rhonda Wood Director: Mrs. Hoffmeister Asst. It involves itself in numerous theatrical productions such as Christmas plays. This year the an- nual Christmas play was again a success with the delightful play. The Mouse that didn't believe in Santa Claus. The Speech Club also annually sponsors a trip to the Guthrie each fall. An excited group of students were privileged to be able to see the fine production at the Guthrie of the Shakespearean play. King Lear. One of the highlights of the Speech Club year is its annual variety show. This show is always a delight as it incorporates all of the budding talent in our school into a fun-filled hour of entertainment. Again this year the variety show will be presented to the com- munity as an example of the imagination and origin- ality of students at WAHS. With a capable advisor like Mr. Lindaman, and a hard-working president like Heidi Schneider, the Speech Club also manages to hold quite a few social activities throughout the year. There is always a fall and winter party at which Speech Club members and friends share in fun, eating and various recreational pastimes at the Lindaman estate. There is also usually a get-together connected with Winnie Awards in the spring. Speech Club is also a very busy organization out- side of school. With its funds, the club annually tries to purchase some new lights for the Area Central auditorium. This is long range project for the club which will inevitably benefit the entire community. For most people, it really MAKES their day! Choir is another organization which really works hard! Our first performance was the Christmas Concert which was held Dec. 15. Another honorable and ex- citing chance we had was to sing on KEYC TV on Dec. 22. Even though it is lots of work, the results are al- ways enjoyable to look back on! 69 SITTING: K. Johnson, M. In the fall they must prepare halftime shows for many home football games. Along with half- time shows, they still have a few parades to march at. Then comes the Fall Band Concert. After that starts the basketball games in which the pep band plays at. Don't get the wrong impression though. Even if it is a lot of hard work, band really has many good times. For example, the 5-day trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming. That is one event no one is ever going to forget. Best wishes and lots of fun times to future band members. FLAG GIRLS AND COLOR GUARD LEFT TO RIGHT: Virginia Larsen, Paula Vieregge, Char Soleta, Tammy Baddgor ORCHESTRA Because of a general lack of knowledge on the subject some people regard orchestra with apprehen- sion. In order to dispel some of those old age fears here is a brief summary of the true meaning of the orchestra. Orchestra is cultural. Members are well noted for their brood repertoire ranging from chamber music to pop and selections from musicals. Orchestra is fun-loving. With a promising crop of freshman, the rehearsals are rarely dull. Actually, orchestra members are a close-knit family. Orchestra is exciting. What organization has pulled off as great a heist, as the lost Chord Caper, when Donna's violin was ripped off by devious cellists and returned only after several clever ransom notes were left demanding 50 cents. Orchestra is unforgettable. Ask anyone who has experienced the joy of bringing music to life with a group. For this reason, orchestra will forever sing along as a cherished institution. Like, Mom, how much money can we spend tonight? We have had exciting days in class, comparing shoes and streching contests. All around it was an in- teresting, fun-packed year. Bringing all grades together, lettermen's club promotes interschool harmony. It is an organ- zation where lettermen and letterwomen can feel as one. President is Bruce Byers, Vice President is Russ Vogel, and Secretary Treasurer is Tjode Boelter. We are proud to be the leaders of such a fine group of individuals. All of the lettermen, who so proudly wear that W on their Blue and Gold jackets are visably proud to represent good old W.A.H.S. in all sporting events, and they always try to remember the old saying, It's not whether you win or lose, it's if you play enough to letter. 86 Row 1: S. Mr. Perrier, quit your winking! School Life FALL HOMECOMING Orange, brown and gold leaves covered the ground- the air hinted of cold, crisp days ahead-people began to think about football games, thermos' of coffee and blankets- candidates for king and queen were announced- every- one realized that Fall Homecoming had once again arrived. Weeks of preparation heralded the arrival of this tradition the WAHS homecoming. Decoration, skit and publicity committees suddenly appeared and began to organize an entire week's worth of activities. These included the annual Powder Puff game at Island Park. It was a fun game with Bob's Slobs once again serenading us with a most memor- able half-time performance and some lovely and comical cheerleaders leading the enthusiasm of the crowd. Other specialties of the week included a Wild West Day and a Nostalgia Day which showed a lot of imagination by WAHS students. Homecoming week. Sept. 22-27, was topped off by a Thursday coronation and a Friday night football game against Slaton. The coronation proved to be the most entertaining event with emcees Sue Voth and Jim Letourneay providing a duo of wit and humor. The skits again highlighted the ceremonies depicting so called true-to-life scenes from the candidates' lives. Musical selections also added to the already entertaining hour. The decoration's committee came through with a new touch as king and queen candidates sat at round, intimate tables with a soda- fountain type atmosphere. Crowned Miss Pep and Mr. Pep at the cremonies were Lorelei Nelson and Radd Johnson. The day ended with a victory over Slaton in the football game and a dance in the commons after the game. All-in-all a most memorable day and week. Everyone was left with a smile and fond memories when the busy activities of homecoming were over. It was one experience that most can truthfully say passed much to quickly. 106 WINTER HOMECOMING The 1974-1975 Winter Homecoming was held on January 3lst. Coronation was held on Thursday morning with Marla Moede and Jerald Maras crowned as the king and queen. A lot of great skits were performed. The emcees were Dawn Peterson and Randy Amundson. Thursday night was wrestling with Slayton and Friday night basket- ball played against Slayton. The teams were victorious in both events. After the game a dance was held in the commons with Sceptor playing the latest rock and roll. 108 ONE ACT PLAY Thurber Carnival Satirizes Life This year the one-act play, directed by Mrs. Campbell, presented A Thurber Carnival , written by James Thurber. The play is a collection of satirical vignettes on the foolishness of human beings. The play is divided into four vignettes: The Unicorn In The Garden; The Wolf; Mr. Preole Gets Rid Of His Wife; and The Last Flowers. The darma centers around action and words amer than costumes and elaborate props. Most of the actors appear in neutral clothing. The names of the actors and their parts follow: The Narrator (James Thurber): Russ Vogel; The Man: Kevin Miller; The Woman: Kathy Molitor; The Psychologist: Mike Quevli; The Policeman: Mark Schmalz; The Wolf: Tom Mielke; The Little Girl: Deb Stevens; Mr. Preble: Mark Schmalz; Miss Daly: Twyla Smith; and student oirector as Carol Riebe. The drama was presented at the District Drama Contest at Mt. Lake on January 28th at which it came home with 1st place.
