These are the familiar words of our patient band director, Mr. Sperry. The band spent many long hours drilling for their impressive Homecoming perfonnance. The time was well spent as the finished product showed. The band, together with the choir, presented the annual Christmas concert. The climax of this program was the combination of the band and choir in the beautifully arranged B1ess This House . The band gave its annual concert on Friday, April 23. But this does not end their work. They faithfully perform at the basketball games, summer concerts and many appearances at connmnity functions. The choir, under the capable direction of Miss Papke, has added much spice to the school activities. The annual concert, Melody Unlimited, was the choir's climax to a successful year. The licnqles 'Ihe Southwestern Cbnference was unusally tough this year, boasting such strong teams as Worthington, Jackson, and Marshall. Ag a result the Eagles finished the 1947 grid season with a slightly below par record of three wins. four losses, and one tie. The team was guided by joe Clawson in his first year as a Windom coach and was captained by Ibn Purrington and Dick Gosen. Sharp blocking and tackling by the Eagles provided a decisive win over Slayton in the season opener. Then at Marshall, the Eagles played their best game of the season in holding the highly favored Tigers to a score- less deadlock. On the road to a very successful season, Windom stumbled before an underdog Tracy team, followed a week later by another loss to St. james. The locals hit their offensive peak of the season as they topped their arch-rivals, Mountain Lake, by a decisive score the following week. ' Another defeat was chalked uo in the loss colurm when Worthington came to town, and went to town, by snowing us under with their dazzling XYZ fonnation. Lakefield proved no obstacle as the Eagles made homecoming a success with an easy victory. The final game of the season proved to be only disaster as the locals tripped before a strong jackson team. Too many fast backs and again too much XYZ was the cause of the defeat The season was not too successful in terms of wins and losses but the fellows still like the game umov q llool 0 Front row W Foss W Potter J Erickson R Meier R Freizen R Voth N Gruenwald J Molenkamp Back row Coach J Bell R Flatgard R Collins H Paulson K Boyce H Raverty D Voth R jeffrey J Thake K Schmitz D Aeling R Thake R Olson M Foss C Hanefeld R Defries D Van Gerpen E Fisher Roy DeVr1es R Dick T Solen 39 J ' Ha L L ll Q.
