Guyer of the University Connecticut, emerged the winner in two national ct petitions and second in another. Elizabeth Kinsey 1 President and Mary Ryan was Secretary-Treasurer. In the Archery Tournament conducted by the I tional Archery Association, Elizabeth Kinsey took l place in the Olympic and Chicago rounds and jr Waggoner placed second in the Olympic and first the Chicago round. H. S. in September as freshmen. Before getting accus- tomed to our new school schedule, there was the endless bumping into upperclassmen, rushing for classes, and the usual dropping of books. In December we elected our first class officers with Winthrop Merriam as President, James Donovan as Vice-President, Lorraine Forbes as Secretary, Gloria Wojick as Treasurer, and Mr. Dudley as Faculty Advisor. Our representatives to the Athletic Council were Mary Lou Abernethy and Tommy Franz. We held our first social event, the Freshman Frolic, in April. Elaine Murphy was elected general chairman. 1949 - 1950 We returned to W. H. S. the following September feeling more sure of ourselves and a bit more important. As sophomores we elected James Donovan as President, Thomas Franz as Vice-President, Lois Lee as Secretary, Mary Lou Abernethy as Treasurer, and Mr. Foster as Faculty Advisor. Barbara Kolentik and Julius Hatcher were elected as representatives to the Athletic Council. The Shamrock Shuffle, a dance in honor of St. Patrick's Day, was held on March 18th, in the Case Gymnasium. Robert Dubeau was general chairman of the affair. On June 3rd, we held our Sophomore Class Party, Borderline Fierta. As general chairman for the party, we elected Stephen Chontas. 1950 - 1951 As juniors we were already feeling quite at home at Windham and proud to be known as upperclassmen. For our class oflicers we elected Herman Calderado as President, john Pos- temski as Vice-President, Elizabeth Kinsey as Secretary, Marsha Turshen as Treasurer, and Mrs. Weber was chosen Faculty Advisor. As representatives to the Athletic Council, we elected Bert Leiss and Diana Brooks. On April 14th, was held the important event of our junior year, the Harbor Ligbtr dance, under the chairmanship of James Donovan. Mary Ellen Resnisky was crowned Queen of the Prom and reigned over the dancers who danced under blue and white streamers, ship wheels, and rope, which added to the atmosphere of the Harbor Light: dance. 1951 - 1952 As seniors we began our last and most eventful year at Windham with the election of our class officers: Tommy Franz as President, Richard Welden as Vice-President, Shirley May Doyle as Secretary, and Norma Sedgewick as Treasurer. Agnes Bergeron and Anthony Skowron became our representatives to the Athletic Council and Mrs. Mahoney was chosen Faculty Advisor. In a miniature cornfield of cornstalks, pumpkins, and scarecrow, the seniors held their first dance of the season, the Autumn Amble, which took place November 10th, in the Case Gym- nasium. Ralph Makoul was general chairman of the committee. Beverly Crane was crowned Queen. The annual Christmas dance, Frost Fantasy, was held in the Case Gymnasium on December 15th. Snowmen, snowflakes, greens, and icicles bedecked the walls and varicolored lights com- pleted the fantasy. Mary Lou Abernethy and Richard Welden were chosen Queen Snowdrop and King Frost. Bob DuBeau was general chairman of the affair. The Class Party, Senior Scramble, took place on March 22nd in the cafeteria under the chairmanship of Milton Bath. Round and square dancing, balloons, refreshments, and enter- tainment helped to make a memorable evening. Out of the Shoe of '52 was the theme of Class Day which was held on June 11th in the Case Gymnasium. Beverly Crane, Class Day chairman, and her assistants helped a great deal in making the occasion a success. On Thursday, June 12th, the class climbed aboard five buses and went to Ocean Beach for the outing and banquet. It was a Windy, but sunny day and everyone had a good time swim- ming, lying on the beach, and riding on the amusements. At 5:30 all the seniors gathered in the Gam building for the banquet. After eating a turkey dinner there was entertainment pro- vided by some of the seniors and then we journeyed home. Oralyn Goodman was chairman for the outing. The Case Gymnasium was transformed into an old-fashioned rose garden for the Com- mencement Ball which took place Saturday, June 14. This annual formal dance was the last social event held by the seniors. Marsha Turshen was general chairman for the Ball. The climax of our four years at Windham was our graduation on Wednesday evening, June 16. Provost Albert E. Waugh, of the University of Connecticut, was the graduation speaker. The diplomas were presented by Mr. Stanley J. Sumner, chairman of the Board of Education. 84 2,41--ff .I www Jam Queen Mary Iillen Resnisky L The receiving line v as-I5 .lckiq-, I5g1rlu.1r.1, and Luis siunple the punch The crnvviied wharf Dancing under the Ilizrbor Liglvfr Herm Cillderiido crowns the Queen Wie?
