The merciless guffaws of the upperclassmen at our greenness and the confusing conglomeration of room numbers made our first days uncomfortable and strange. We became accustomed to our new surroundings, however, and convened at our first class meeting on January 15, 1945 to elect our officers. They were: Paul Gaucher, President, Janet Cook, Vice-President, Philip Jolie, Treasurer, Catherine Cahill, Secretary, and Clyde Washburn and Ruth Potter, Athletic Council members. Miss Jeanne Flynn was elected class advisor. Our main event of the year was the annual Freshman Frolic which was held in the Town Hall on May 18, 1945 under the chairmanship of George Gauthier. 1946-47 Not so timid in our second September, we trod the halls with a confident sophomore air and even dared to chuckle at the freshmen. At our first class meeting on October 9th, Kendall Anthony was elected Class President, and with him, Howard Oldershaw, Vice- President, Ruth Potter, Treasurer, Janet Grenon, Secretary, Raymond Maheu and Betty Lou Hanna, Athletic Council members. Miss Ernestine Moore was chosen faculty advisor. In a hall bedecked with spring flowers, pastel streamers, and a picket fence, the Sophomore Hop was held on March 22nd, in the Windham Street School Auditorium. Music was furnished by the N.F.A. Orchestra, and entertainment by Philip Jolie and Anita Nelson .on the piano, and Bernice Wood and Norma Chasin in the vocal department. The committee in charge of the Hop was Janet Cook, Philip Jolie, Robert Spooner, John Peterson, Thomas Kelley, Paul Gaucher, Molly Moore, and Joyce Peppin. 194 7-48 Frankly casual, we returned to familiar halls at September's call. Experience aided us in starting our class machinery early, we held our first class meeting on October 18, 1946. Our junior class officers were Robert Meikle, President, Stanley Griffin, Vice-President, Molly Moore, Secretaryg Judy Putnam, Treasurerg Paul Gaucher and Ruth Potter, Athletic Council members. Mrs. Josephine Kind was chosen to guide us on our way. Early in the fall we ordered our class rings-the badge of approaching seniority. The Junior Prom, held on May 16, highlighted our spring activities. Over one hundred couples danced to the music of the Connecticut Collegians in the atmosphere of a spring garden. During the intermission and entertainment Janet Grenon was elected and crowned Queen of the Prom. The committee in charge, headed by Stan GriHin, was Tom Kelley, Marna Young, Janet Grenon, Paul Gaucher, Esther Owens, Ruth Potter, and Kendall Anthony. Bringing to an end an eventful year, the Junior Class Outing was held at Lake Compounce on June 12th. Swimming, speedboat rides, roller-skating, train rides, Dodge-ums, free rides on the roller coaster, and many other amusements left us tired but happy at the end of the day and the year. . 100 --i-........., mm Ham Y. Wfzsfffizgmz Eighty-eight seniors, accompanied by four chap- erons, left Willimantic at 6:30, Sunday night, for the annual pilgrimage to our nation's capital. After a long night of bumpy traveling, we arrived in Baltimore where we met our bus drivers who took us to Fort McHenry and thence to Washington. Before lunch we went to the Washington Monument, waited outside the Capitol to catch a glimpse of President Truman, and posed for our picture. Taking advantage of a sunny afternoon, we visited Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, and the big National Air- port. Getting off to an early start Tuesday morning, we toured through the Smithsonian Institute buildings, the Capitol Building where We saw the Senate and House in session, the Supreme Court, and the White House where we saw Trumanis new porch. After lunch we drove out to the Washington Cathedral and the Franciscan Monastery, and after dinner we saw the Library of Congress, the Lincoln Memorial, and enjoyed Glen Echo Amusement Park. Wednesday morning we were guided through the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the Pan American Union Building, the Department of Commerce Aquar- ium, The National Art Gallery, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Bidding farewell to Washington, we headed for Annapolis for a tour of the Naval Academy and then on to Baltimore where we boarded the boat for Norfolk. Arriving in Virginia the next morning, we drove through Norfolk and the U. S. Naval Base, and after a short stop at the Mariner's Museum at Newport News, we went on to restored Colonial Williamsburg where we saw the jail, the House of Burgesses, the Governor's Palace, and several private homes. Leaving Williamsburg we went to Jamestown, the first perman- ent American settlement, and then back to the boat. After a rough trip up the bay, we entrained at Baltimore for New York City. We lunched on the train, and then the group split, some going to the Yankee-Red Sox baseball game, and the rest going to Radio City Music Hall. After supper, tired and travel worn, we boarded the train for Hartford and home. Getting off to an early start Waiting for the train in Collecting autographs on the from high school.
