During the year it has been in demand for several programs both in and out of school. The first was the an- nual school Christmas program when the chorus members portrayed the characters of the Christmas Story in a pageant, The Blessed Nativity. In January the group was invited to sing two special numbers at the Windfall Methodist Church revival meeting. The chorus also presented aSunday evening musical program at the Greentown Christian Church where Mr. Mitchell, our trustee, is the minister. This pro- gram consisted of group numbers, solos, and congregational singing, with Mrs. Powell and the chorus in charge. Several of these same groups and soloists entered the contest at Muncie, January 28. It was held one week earlier than usual, so they had to work especially hard. Since Christmas, with a slight interruption by the operetta, the chorus has been practicing, first for the con- test, and now for Baccalaureate. These are the last two appearances in an extremely full and varied year. 42

74. my scam amz Right face, one, two! Hats off, one two! --very familiar words to all band members. They were part of some of the clever new marching routines developed by Mrs. Powell for the four floor shows which the band pre- sented at basketball games. In addition, the marching band again led the Homecoming Parade, and also a Pet Parade sponsored by the Windfall Merchants. The most important event, of course, was the marching contest at Southport at which the band received a first division rating. The reward for this victory was a trip to Lafayette to attend the Purdue vs. Michigan State football game. The majorettes had a busy season, too. Fanchon Francis and .Toanne Justice won first for twirling solos at Southport and second in the All-State contest at Butler University. They later presented their routines at a ballgame, and Trudy, Kay, and Joanne presented a twirling ensemble using lighted batons. After the first semester emphasis on marching, the concert band began working toward the spring contest, hoping to do a repeat of last year's first at Selma. Also, several instrumental solos and four ensembles were en- tered in the District Solo and Ensemble Contest at Muncie. Now the band is again playing Pomp and Circumstancen in preparation for Commencement. Theynever stop practicing! Sponsored by THE TIPTON TRIBUNE 41

After learning to carry a part, sight read, and perform before an audience, they are prepared to sing more difficult music when they reach high school. The result of all this preparation is an improvement in the high school chorus, and a good junior high chorus, too. What could be better? 1 ' 'i
