SENIORS Some of the boys are in the service, The Senior Class is kind of small, We hope the war will soon be over And the class will be larger next fall. The Seniors may think they are dignified Like Seniors usually do. But Mr. Riffe, in the Study Hall says, They act like the age of two. Some of the Seniors are a little worried About their grades in health. We hope that they will buckle down. For knowledge is worth more than wealth. After school is over, The world will be their home, We hope that they'll remember us No matter where they roam. --By Marilyn Berger 15 JOKES Mr. Brewer: What is capital punishment Brown treading a magazinel Income Tax . Dozm JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY HE past three years of our life has been spent in Windfall High, where we've tried to make it a better place for other students like ourselves. We entered the gates on September 7, 1941 as green freshman. The upper classmen extended us and invitation to be their guests of honor at a get acquainted party on the first week of school. The party ended with several disappointed people, we went through the regular initiation that night. To guide our class through the year we elected our officers: Mr. Ritfe, sponsorg Robert Terwilliger, presidentg slay Martin, vice president, Robert McCaskey, treasurer, Gilbert, McDaniel, secretary. Our main source of making money was a blanket club which gave us a good net profit. The second year we met again, with a few less members in' the class, Upon immediate organization, we elected class ohficersz Miss Kimmerking. sponsor, James Fennellg presidentg Doloris Riley, vice president, Ethelyn Bryan, secretary, Dale Armstrong, treasurer. We took part in the annual Hallowe'en Festival, sponsoring the Cake W'alk, competing against the Freshe man and Juniors. It must have been our lucky day because we walked off with first prize. We directed a campaign in magazine sales, for a period of two weeks, although we didn't do as well as weqcould have, it helped the treasury. School closed this year with everyone anticipating the following school year. , We are now about to complete our Junior year, which has been most successful. We organized the class with the following olhcers: Mr. Patter- son, sponsor, Robert Barker, presidentg James Fennell, vice president, Marilyn Berger, secretaryg Ethelyn Bryan, treasurer. Again this year we sold maga- zines to make money, with the class divided into two teams. Early in january we sponsored The Hoosier Cornhuskers , another source of income, which also furnished entertainment to the community. Since several students wanted to learn to dance we have helped to promote some learn to dance parties for the Junior and Senior classes during the year. We presented a class play, Midnight , which was one of our main objectives for the year. The class has worked together for three long years, making money for the junior-Senior Prom which is given in honor of the Seniors each year the last week of school. We carried out our plans for this prom to the utmost of our ability. We have one more year in the fight for our education in high school. In hopes that we will all make good---this ends another chapter in our lives. I 21 ff' , 55, may k F. Combs M. Hutclivrswn I. Smith A. Rivhzlrfis N. Puri' M. Fupp K. Nvlsmt U. Nlwlntush Nl. In the first class meeting the following ofiicers were elected: president, Bruce Johnsong vice president, Sarah McDaniel, secretary, Sharie Patterson, treasurer, Harold Clouserg sponsor, Mr. Louis Riffe. At the Halloween carnival the class sponsored two side show movies entitled Pioneers of the Plains , and second Tall Tales . On january 27, was the initiation. An old adage, Well begun, half done , seemed to fit our class. On September 10, 1943, thirty-two students came back for another long, hard school term. This year in our first class meeting the ofiicers elected were: president, Merl Hutcherson, vice president, Bruce Johnson, secretary, Bob johnson, treasurer, Wayne Bolinger. At the first of the year we ordered our class rings and now that we have them, BOY, are we proud of them. This year the class undertook several projects in order to help out the treasury. First of all we had our Personalized Stationery sales which was a big success. Second we had a doughnut sale and you underclassmen can take our word for it, doughnut making is one of the hardest and most tire- some ideas for making money that can be worked out, but still we made plenty of money on them and we might try it again sometime. Third, we presented a one-act play named Elmer and the Love Bug. 3 1 1 Q 1 23 FRESHMEN TOP ROVV: Mr. Riffe, D. Mock, J. Smith, M. Sells, Z. Dean, C. Applegate, E. Ryan, B. Parkinson, A. Whalen, M. FRESHMAN CLASS HISTORY We enrolled in the Windfall High School on September 10, 1943. Our first step was to elect officers. They are as follows: Mr. Riffe, sponsor: -Iean Curless, president, Charles Castor, viee president, Helen Scott, secretary-treasurer. The seniors then decided we should go no further without being initiated. Initiated, we were on September 29. It was a very strenuous event but the most of us reeouperated fairly well. We were then confronted with the problem of building up our treasury. After some debating, we decided upon a movie, which we gave March 2. It was entitled Topper Takes A Trip starring Constance Bennett and Roland Young. VVe did very well considering that this was our first experience in sponsoring an activity. This almost brings to a elosc our hrst year of high sehool. We hope to fulfill the stand- ards sct for us in the future. This year we have had market to help us to raise money for our society. BREEZE This year Mrs. Mart undertook to organize a journalism class, and believe it or not, it really proved to be very profitable. In the beginning the students acquainted themselves with the rules and types of articles of journalism, later proving very helpful in story writing. The class decided to have a high-school paper, and a contest was held to name it. The tinal count gave it the name Breeze which brought back memories of the by-gone days of the last school paper having the same name. The staff consisted of editor-in-chief, Marilyn Curlessg associate editor, Bill Combs, feature editors, Betty Richardson, Bob Cyphers, Helen Toddg sports editor, james Wlalshg art editor, Clora Graham, class editor, Norvene Cover- dalcg grade editor, Thehna Mock, typists, Lois Crousore, Ruth Todd, business managers, jack Beach, Robert Tcrwilliger, circulation managers, Dale Armstrong, Robert johnson. It was decided to edit the paper on Thursday every two weeks, having special issues for holidays. At the start of the second semester, several new students enrolled in the elas, thus adding some new names to the staff. These included: assistant editor, Marilyn Bergerg business manager, Ruth Scuddcr, jack Beach: circulation managers, Robert Johnson, Norvene Cover- dalcg sports editors, Dale Armstrong, Robert Cyphersg feature editors, Betty Richardson, Helen Todd, Robert Tcrwilligerg office Manager, Thelma Mock. The class continued the paper thc second semester, and also sponsored a movie for the purpose of raising funds for future journalism classes. This also has served as playground, boxing ring and lunch room for them. With tearful hearts they say farewell to this beloved room in which they have had many trials and tribulations. TWIRLING CLASS This year as in the past, Marilyn Berger has been teaching a class in twirling, only, now, there are around twenty students taking this. Darwin Cyphers is her assistant. The elass meets once a week. They have learned several new twirls and tricks this year. They twirled at the P. T. A. Meeting onee, and at the Frankton basketball game. They are improving quite a bit. Also, they seem to be growing up. Several have had to have longer hatons and others still need them. 44 HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT The girls in advauee Home Economies department were unfortunate in only having four members. The complete freshman elass is also taking this subjeet. They are sewing, baking, eooking, and studying nutrition. The advaneed students have an advantage by hav- ing sueh as small class, as the teaeher has more time withleaeh students. The seeond semester more girls took up home ee. They have been making spring dresses. Also, they have done sewing for the red cross. LIBRARIAN The VV. H. S. library was under the supervision of Mrs. Harriett Rhodes this year with the following girls are student librarians: Helen Todd, Mary Gunning, Reveeea Meyneke, Helen Jean Brewer, and Karleen Pugh. The library was Catalogued this year for the First time and a picture tile has been started. Mrs. Rhodes has ordered approximately one hundred new books but to date only twenty- seven have arrived. These books have been catalogued and shell and are now in the library for student use. The advaneetl shop elass under the direetion of Mr. Seott built shelves in the library for the books which the sehool reeeives from the Tipton County Library. These Tipton books have proved to be a valuable addition to the XV. H. S. library. Our sehool is very fortunate in having many of the best magazinesavailable in the library, Among these magazines are Fortune, Life, National Geographie, Atlantie Monthly, ete. Our library is one of whieh we ean all be proud. BOYS SHOP The shop is under the supervision of Edgar Scott. The boys have been taking mechanical drawing which should prove helpful in their later life. This advanced class has been building book shelves for the library and repairing various other things throughout the school. 4 sir sir it GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The girls of Windfall High School organized a new club for Windfall High School. It was G. A. A. or Girls Athletic Association. The ofiicers are, sponsor, Mrs. Porter, president, Rebecca Meyncke, vice president, Dorothy Smithg secretary, Mollie Tobias treasurer, Bonnie Smith. The G. A. A. were green and White. The aim of organization is to stimulate interest in health and physical activites for girls. Every Tuesday evening after school We play games such as girls basket- ball, volley ball, base ball, and etc. This has been a very successful organization, and the girls have enjoyed it very much. Wiki? PHYSICAL EDUCATION ' Mrs. Porter is in charge of the girls physical education program. The first semester their were two classes, freshman and sophomore in one and juniors and seniors in the other. When the last half of the school year rolled around the sophomore girls were compelled to go with the older girl. The program consists of body building exercises, games such as volley ball, German base ball, and tumbling. This spring we will have track perhaps. This year on Thursday the girls have a period in the gym at noon. This has been enjoyed by all the girls in high school. 47 ' JUNIOR CLASS PLAY On March 21-22 the junior Class presented a mysterious play entitled Midnight directed by Mrs. Barr. H had plenty of fight, and played good offensive and defensive ball this year. Brown was LL good hghter and proved himself by his guarding of Frantmfs forward,Vo lenhals, and Tipton's, Norris. He was very apt in getting the hall to the other hoys. Barker was regular center for the Windfall quintet. His scoring was average. He tis tinguished himself by holding down the scores of big men on the opposing teams. Armstrong, who played opposite Brown in this quintet is a very clever guard. As we look in the future, we see great things for this boy. Beach, who held the other forward post and helped the Dragons win games that othu wise would have been lost, was a very high point man. This scoring was brought about bx good team work. 52 FIRST TEAM GROUP Crouch changed from guard to center this year and this move proved very successful when the Dragons used a fast tire brand of basketball. Cyphers saw Very little action this year due to the type of basketball that was played by the Windfall tive. But when he was needed he always came through with a good game. Ressler found himself at the last of the season, especially in the sectional, where he proved himself very tough in rebound and scoring. Young, alias Dingfod, held down one guard spot and his steady hands and eool head helped the Dragons over some rough spots. Plummer played little ball this year but as we look hack over his former career, he was a good all around player. The NAVY gain is our loss. 53 SECOND TEAM ARRANGIE M ENT: FIRST ROW: Br. -Iohnsong Cornbsg Terwilligerg lXlcKinneyg McNcwg johnson. SECOND RUVV: Lightfoot g' Fecherg Duncang Clouser. Looking over the second team's games we find that they have 16 victories and 4 defeats. With 'Slats' McKinney at the piloting spot this team rolled over tough opponents and brought the Second Team trophy home from Sharpsville. The five fellows who accomplished this were: Bruce Johnson, a good guard on both offensive and defensive. Charles McNew held the other guard spot, he is a hard driving and steady player. Bob johnson the red-headed forward has plenty of scoring ability and proved so in several games this season. Robert Terwilliger held the other forward spot and pulled the Little Dragons out of several tough spots with his miraculous one-handed shots. Clark McKinney a tall lanky senior, who played center all year, good on rebounds. Fccher, Duncan, and Clouser were dependable substitutes. lYe were proud of the whole team, 54 FRESHMEN TEAM ARRANGEMENT: FIRST ROW: Castorg Cottinghamg Laeyg -Ioe Smithg Stoutg Mock. SECOND ROVV: Summersg Scottg Retherfordg Pattersong .Iohnsong jim Smith. The Freshmen played a fairly tough season this year with 5 wins and 3 losses. These boys have great ability and may be able to win a sectional for Windfall. We know that they have lots of talent but we hope they'll not let it go to their heads. The usual starting Hve consists of Joe Smith, Max Lacy, Charles Castor, and Gene Cottingham, and Dallas Mock. These five went a long way in freshmen competition and We hope they keep up this good work during their school days. Who won every game when they came out on the floor, There by Jim Walsh and Jack Edwin Beach, This ball team of 44 was really a peach, And then there was Jack Brown and Dale Armstrong, They made the team look like a sarong, And last but not least, there was Frankie The Crooner , When he got to hitting, the game was over sooner. You might think this is too built up , But when they got in the game, they really had the stuff, And there was Bax Ressler, whose hands were sticky as molasses, He had much trouble with breaking his glasses. There was Tiny Cy who always, came through, But he sat on the bench like it was glue, Oh yes there was Crouch and Young who had height And when they got in the game they really did fight. So now we are ending our salute to you We are really pround of the team, the red white and blue. -Jack Beach QUIZ KIDS Oh, what terrible, terrible pests we darlings seem to be, Every time teachers turn around they see, alas, we. We are always wanting some essential thing I'd say, If we don't get it the first time we try again next day. We travel throughout the building doing various things, We're never where we ought to be when the school bell rings, We sidle up to a teacher, ask him for a pass, We always seem to get one, for we're of the senior class. We hope some intelligent individual will come to take our place May they always be successful and in the teachers grace. And now we say goodby to you, the illustrious Quiz Kids, we. We are truly very sorry to leave this happy family. -Quiz Kids A LAST WORD Farewell, farewell, alas, alas, The day has come when we must pass From this school in which we whirled f?J And go out to meet the world. Goodbye, goodbye, the time has come, When we from friendly guidance run Into a world of gruesome things, Where no commanding school bell rings. And so, dear school, we bid adieu, We may no longer be with you. We hope you miss us o'er and o'er, And we'll remember you evermore. -Marilyn Curless 59 iff iff if if sir slr ik fir , ik' SALUTE TO THE BOYS HE Senior Class is not lacking in patriotism, although perhaps in other things, we are represented in the Navy by Puffy Plummer, Navy V-5, jim Walsh and jack Beachg Marines, Phillip Smith, Eugene Smith. These boys have all left except jim and Jack who are waiting to he called and will leave July 1, 1944. jim and ,lack have participated in many school activities and have been an asset to the class. VVe wish them luck in their future adventures. Phillip Plummer has been very helpful to the class and was missed by the Anemone Staff because he left before things got under way. He was also missed by basketball collegues. Eugene Smith was an excelent hall player and we only wish he had been here this year with us. , Phillip Smith was known for his pleasant personality and was well liked by his class mates.
