Knnunq indication GRADUATION DAY Dear Mother and Father, Do you remember the day I told you I wanted to be a nurse? Neither of you said very much but I saw the pride in your smiles and I knew you were pleased with my choice. I recall the time you bought me the nurse doll and told me What a fine thing it was to be a nurse. The decision, I knew, was entirely mine: you would be proud of me, no mat- ter what I did. I always was sure I could count on your support all the way. After all, hadn't you already begun to train me to respect myself and others. 'You see, the basis for my nurses' training began in our own home when you taught me to enjoy--.al1.the finer things of life. At last, one of the happiest days of my life is here and because you love me, I know you are happy too. Thank you both for helping me, not for three years, but for 21 years. You've helped to give me something that no one can take away, something that I shall be able to use the rest of my life, something that has made me a better person. No finer gift could a parent give any daughter. Now, I have the chance to thank you. To you and all the other parents of the girls in the Class of 1955, our book is dedicated. Your loving daughter, THE CLASS OF 1955 Ianet Davie, graduate nurse, Ioanne DeMcn'co, senior student, and Patricia Pasierb, intermediate student orient: Nancy Nightingale, preclinical student, to the School oi Nursing. S. Wheeling who was al- ways interested in our problems Whether they were large or small. He always seemed to be able to see our point of view, and put us straight it We were wrong. Then, too, he understood that we were always hungry. How we ate at those spaghetti dinners which he had for us. What fun it was to come off duty and find a crate of fruit, several gallons of ice cream, candy or Watermelon for all-compliments ot Dr. Wheeling! We cherish all these memories, and appreciate his interest. Is it any Wonder we feel as though he is our second dad. MRS. IESSIE M. LEACH, R. N. Faculty Advisor Student Government Association We Wish to express our appreciation to Miss Davie for the help she gave us in planning our student government activi- ties. We enjoyed having her Work with us. Advice is like snow, the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon and the deeper it sinks into the mind. -Coleridge We Wish to express our thanks to Mrs. Leach for her endless patience in help- ing us solve our problems during the past three years. After talking with our ad- visor, problems Which seemed huge be- came trivial and many of those darker moments were made much brighter. The advice given us will be remembered and used the rest of our lives in our pro- fessional and personal relationships. IESSIE LEACH On September 25, 1952, the Student Government Association of the Windber Hospital School of Nursing held its organization meeting under the direction of Shirley Iohnston, Who was soon to graduate from the school. It was through the untiring efforts of the class of l952 that the long dreamed of association became a reality. Dorothy Botlock, the first president, had a difficult task, but she managed it Well. The six month trial period passed quickly and the student body was much happier under the new organization. WPP1314 The Class of 1955 agrees that the most exciting day of the year 1953 Was March 12. Why? It was the day We had been looking forward to for six months. It was the day we received our caps. Words cannot express our feelings, but don't you think our iaces show it? 9 'fl All summer we looked forward to grad- uation. There were lots of signs that it was coming. There was uniform fitting. How proud we were of our first white uniform. There was talk of our hospital pins cmd diplomas. Our senior confer- ences and discussions concerning plans for the future made us realize that it Wouldn't be long until we would have to decide what our future course would be. September 15, Graduation Day, finally arrived. There was Commencement with all its preparation and after com- mencement the reception in the nurses' home. Mrs. Myers wished each of us a long, happy and successful life. We were now the new graduates. Will this channel be okay? I told you she'd trump. You should recxd this book.
