CLASS HISTORY OF 1950 August 17, 1947, twenty-one career-seeking young ladies entered Wind- ber Hospital Training School for Nurses with hearts and minds set toward the 'goal of becoming Registered Nurses. After a day of orientation, we began our preliminary training which consisted of studies of the fundamentals of nursing. In October, we spent several hours each day, putting this knowledge into practical use in the different departments of the hospital. Also during this mon.th, at a Halloween Party, held in our honor by the upperclassmen, we learned to know the older students and instructors with whom we would be associating during the coming three years. February 18, just six months after entering training, We tool: the first big step toward our goal. At a beautiful, impressive ceremony, We realized, as never before, the responsibilities that lay before us. Our caps were placed upon our heads by former Windber graduates. Shortly after capping, a class meeting was held. Class officers were elected: Nima Kaufman, President, Violet Malone, Vice Presidentg Marion Anlceny, Secretaryg Yoletta Propoggio, Treasurer. Summer came and was gone-August 18, to celebrate our first year of training, a swimming partyiand Weiner roast was held. Now being Intermediates and following the customs of those before us, we held a spaghetti supper and hayride for the graduating class. We also held a Halloween Party for the preliminary students. At the present time, we are looking forward to the beginning of our psychiatric affiliation at the Philadelphia State Psychiatric Hospital.

JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY On August l, l9-48, the Nursing Home of Windber Hospital opened wide its doors to sev- enteen new pre-clinical students, who, accompanied by their parents, arrived at the tea which was given in their honor. Over the cups of refreshments served by the upperclassmen, the new arrivals were given an opportunity to be-come acquainted with their new classmates and as they chattered excitedly back and forth discussing this new phase of life they were informed by Miss Yetter, the directress, the rooms where they should reside. Eight of the new girls were to live at the nurses' home annex known as the Hindman House with Mrs. Hindman as their house mother. The other nine girls were assigned to rooms at the large nurses' home with Mrs. Gimber as mother of the house. Following the physical examinations which were given on Monday and Tuesday of the next week, the new students began their classes. Slowly new courses of study unfolded before them as they took their first steps in cr long anticipated career. When each girl became adjusted to her new surroundings, her studies became less difficult and to her amazement she was soon informed that finals would be given in several of her sub- jects. At the completion of each course, a new book was presented to her and every girl set forth to conquer successfully another stepping stone to her chosen profession. At last the long awaited day arrived. The early morning rays of sun on September 28, caught nine of the class of girls making their way into the hospital for their first experience of care on the floor.
