Zfnmaqn to 01,411 Hamlzlefm This year was considered the best season in six years for the Ramblers and the coaching staff headed by John Kawchak. Only a 6-O upset at the hands of Adams Township spoiled an other- wise perfect season. Instead of getting the team down, this lone defeat seemed to serve as an inspiration to the never-say-die spirit of team and coaching staff. Such spirit was an outstanding feature of the Punxsutawney game when a sure loss was turned into an unexpected but well- earned victory, 26-19. The Johnstown-Windber game saw a re- newal of an old rivalry in a new setting. After twenty-seven years of playing the game in Johns- town, it was played in Windber Stadium. All the dire predictions as to the inability of Windber to handle the crowd came to nothing, and it went off without a hitch to the tune of l0,000 paid admissions, and a l2-6 victory for the Ramblers. As a team, the l953 Ramblers didn't have to depend on the performance of one or two play- ers. On the other hand, it was the plugging of such workhorses cs Bob Halcovich, Bill Keller, John Sombronski, Tom Kanas, Dudley Hunt, Ger- ald Kephart, George Zindash and Ed Hordubay that enabled the outstanding work in the back- field of Ralph Facciani, John Hajnos, Terry Fagan and Bob Hudy, and the completion of so many passes to Charles Baughman and Fred Greene. However, individual players did come into their share of publicity at the close of the season when the following players received recognition in addition to others who rated honorable men- tion: Johnstown Democrat All-Star Teams: Ed Hordubay-First Team Terry Fagan-Second Team Windber Stadium Award: Ed Hordubay and Bob Hudy All-State United Press Team: Ed Hordubay-Second Team All-State Associated Press Team: Fred Greene-Third Team Seventy Six Smumn 14 wmdbef opp onen ts wfndbef 2,945 Yards gained rushing ,. , ,,,. 1,220 36 223 Yards lost rushing , .. 327 342 2,722 Net yards rushing ,,,,, .. 893 95 359 Rushing attempts ,r,,., H 356 86 7.58 Average gain rushing .A , 2.5 7 61 Passes attempted ,, ,, , 127 2 21 Passes completed s,,,., 36 28 421 Yards gained passes ....,, ,, 491 24 3 Yards lost passes 6 888 418 Net gain passes .,,,. , ,, 485 37 8 Passes intercepted by .,..,, 7 297 155 Yards returned int. passes ,, 107 7 9 Ball lost on downs , ,,.,,,,, 14 59 31 Fumbles , , .
