The paintings used on the division pages of the i952 Stylus are the work of a well-known Windber artist, Lawrence Whitaker. He has found his subiects in the everyday scenes of life in a coal town -- a tired, grimy miner hurrying home from work, loaded coal cars trans- porting the magic mineral to mills and factories, men on their way to work kneeling outside a church praying that they may safely return to their families at the end of the day. Simple things- yes, but immortalized on canvas.
