-T pl? ,--1' n ,,,...--' Qareuford Young children came from noble families to be pages at the Court of King Arthur where they were trained in ways of gentle- ness, humility, obedience, and honor. They learned to ride and hunt, they were trained to be armor bearers for the knights whose status they hoped to acquire some day, they were taught to havc respect for their super- iors and devotion to their king. When these pages reached their teens, and had success- fully Finished their elementary training, they became squires and later, when they had proved that they were fearless and courage- ous beyond the call of duty, they became knights. They promised to be valiant, cour- teous, and loyalf, They were expected to resist bribery and to despise caution, to risk their lives for their lord or companions. They were to help the needy and to spread the good will and fine reputation of the court throughout the land. This book is dedicated to the pages, squires, and knights of our school. We too have been given the advantage of fine training and edu- cation in our years at Winchester-Thurston. As Seniors we hope that we have succeeded in acquiring some part of the knowledge our school has provided for us, and that as a result we shall be known for our valor- ous deeds throughout our lives as were the knights of old. We now present to you with the aid of pictures, drawings, and writing, the steps in the training We have received in the hap- py, Worthwhile years We have spent at Win- chester-Thurston. S. S.
