FOREWORD Last spring, when our dreams of becoming Seniors were just beginning to material' ize, we were shattered by the loss of a person so much a part of us that we felt as insef cure as a house whose foundation had suddenly crumbled. We could not express our grief, and our sadness was heightened by the realization that our goldfedged dreams might fade into impossibility. But in the remaining days of that spring, we watched hopefully as a fine builder came to the aid of our toppled house and began to rebuild-using friendship as his conf erete, loyalty as his bricks, and understanding as his mortar. He used his own tools but relied upon us to supply him with his materials. We strove hard to provide him with his needs, and, as a result, with his strength and faith to support us, we were able to enter our Senior Year eagerly and with confidence. This year has been worth all the hard work we have put into it, and has failed us in only one respect-it hasn't been long enough. We have had too much fun, shared too many worries, played too much bridge and loved being together too much to accept the realization that, when we leave this school today, we, as a group, may never be able to laugh, work, or play together again. But our sharing so many things together has not been in vain: for, when we leave, we take with us not only the knowledge we have acquired, but also the courage to face and tackle the problems of our time, the hope to be able to find some day the best answer to our prayers, and enough of a ublithe spirit to enable us to see our way, even in the darkest moments. So that we may never forget a few of the wonderful things that made our year so full, we have compiled our book as a log of what we did, what we said, and how we held up under the strain of being examples of perfection. We are not too sure that we have been quite the models we should have been, nor are we confident that this book is as true a record as it might be, but we have had fun trying. We hope that as you turn the pages of our yearbook you will capture, as we have, a little of the spirit that is WinchesterfThurston. The Editor.
