The seniors remember Gary — He was funny all the time ... he would just walk up and stand by you and say something in a quiet voice and make you laugh ... he was always telling jokes. Remember the one about the boy taking a rocket to the sun? ... he would tell them very fast, and then just smile ... he liked to listen to C. W. McCall, and sang songs like that ... he had lots of friends ... he was a friend himself, a good friend ... not a fair-weather friend ... he was always the first to offer to help when you needed It ... he was just nice ... wherever Gary was, that's where everybody was ... when he was quiet, he blended in with the crowd, but when he was talking he stood out ... he never had any enemies ... you can't help missing him ... Words can't always explain The things we feel And try to say. When God comes — Timing may not seem right, But oh, our Lord Watches over his chosen ones. 4 — Chris Jefferson

e . - Jim Berry, Advertising Manager We Put It All Together Below: EDITORIAL AND LAYOUT STAFF. Standing: Kevin Evans, Tom Peterson (chief photographer). Sitting: Jon Hub-bert, Linda Crawford, Carolyn Dolen, Chris Jefferson. On floor: Tracey Day, Sherri Howard. Publishing a yearbook is a year-long project. Starting in September, the staff first decides on the length of the book and on how much color will be used (both of these depend mostly on how hard the money-making ad staff is willing to work). They decide on the cover, the end-sheets, the type and the headline style. Then the editor, assisted by the layout staff, makes a diagram to show where everything will be. The chief photographer sets up a schedule with the photographer, checking first with the major organizations for convenient times. After the pictures are taken and the rightprints chosen from the contact sheets, a layout diagram of each page is made, first on a planner sheet and then on a 3-R sheet; copy is typed on the 3-R sheet or on a copy sheet, and everything is checked carefully and mailed to Topeka. Proofs come back, are checked and returned, and the whole thing gets printed. Somewhere along the line, the staff and the sponsor must acquire snapshots of as many people and as many activities as possible, make decisions about dedications, etc., persuade faculty and students to turn in information, take orders and money for the books, and — very important and very time-consuming — SELL ADS and keep careful records. The staff looks forward to August, when the book comes out, and hopes the finished product will be worth it all. Below, left: ADVERTISING STAFF.
