Winchester High School Winchester, Illinois Presents the 1975 Wildcat Dedication We are proud to dedicate the 1975 Wildcat annual to Mr. Reg Dunham. He has been one of our sponsors throughout our four years at Winchester High School. We appreciate all the help he has given us as a sponsor, teacher, coach, and friend, and we want to thank him for it. 4 MR. DONALD SMITH Mr. Smith, principal, enjoys fishing as one of his favorite pastimes. MRS. RUTH PORTER Mrs. Porter is the school's guidance counselor. Outside of school she likes collecting glassware as her hobby. MRS. MARGARET GOODIN MRS. LILLIAN COULTAS Mrs. Goodin teaches science and math. We elected Kyle Evans as president, Denny Moore as vice-president, Kevin Brown as secretary, and Jon Porter as treasurer. Our next step up was our sophomore year, which we took with more confidence. Gary Scott was elected president, Mike Hallock, vice-president; Tom Fearneyhough, secretary; and Randy Paige as treasurer. The third year was one of the businest ones. We started out by electing Kyle Evans as president, Denny Moore, vice-president; Ron Weder, secretary; and Kathy Virgin as treasurer. We sold magazines in September to raise money for our Junior-Senior Prom, Color My World. The banquet was held at the Blackhawk. In our final year we elected Tim Barber, president; Reta Ballard, vice-president; Connie Fryman, secretary; Keith Aden as treasurer. As a money making project they had a bake sale in October to use for decorating the study hall and library. Around Christmas they had the Santa Claus parade along with the Christmas Concert. During the new year they played at basketball games and prepared for the Potpourri. In the spring the band held their Spring Concert. At the end of the year they went on tour and performed for several schools. Coach: Art Newton. Season Summary The Wildcats football squad finished the 1974 season with a 3-5-1 record. They ended the season with an 18-6 victory over Calhoun to capture second place in the IVC. The Wildcats played the toughest schedule in the history of the school. Injuries played an important part in this year's season, with the biggest blow the loss of Captain Pat Peak in the second game of the year. The Fighting Wildcats lost three games by only 17 total points. Kyle Evans was the winner of the Darrell Spang award for outstanding leadership, spirit, and courage. Denny Moore won the most tackles award and Ron Weder was the recipient of the Wildcat Award which honors the unsung hero. Seven Wildcats received all-conference honors. Co-captains elected for next year are Larry Cox and Joe Nash. The Frosh-Soph ended the season with a 3-5 record while the freshman were 6-2. Most valuable player was Mike Hainsfurther. New school records were made by Joe Nash, who had an earn run average of .625. Mike Hainsfurther set records in total hits, and runs scored. The '74 Track season ended the year successfully as the Wildcats set some records. Brian McKinney was voted most valuable to his team. The most improved track man was Tim Smith. In Head Coach Art Newton's last year at the helm, the Wildcats broke four school records which gives his track teams 18 school records out of a possible 20. In closing his track coaching Coach Newton says that he has coached some outstanding athletes. Captains for the '75 season are Gordon McKinney and Marvin Stinebaker.
