They have been helpfullness, guidance, and friendship personified. As a token of our appreciation for his leadership and counseling as principal during our last year, we dedicate the 1967 Wildcat to Mr. Dale V. Pittenger. He has been an inspiration to all of us, and we are grateful for his leadership. 3 FRIENDS OF WIN-CO-HI WINCHESTER TIMES FRANCES CRABTREE WALLACE STUDIO SLAGLE'S RESTAURANT WEST END GROCERY ANDER'S BEAUTY SALON GREEN DRIVE IN FROST'S CLOTHING STORE ALLAN WATT MILLIE AND NICK'S STORE FLEX-O-FILM DOBSON'S TEXACO ALSEY REFRACTORY LAWRENCE CILLHAM DON COX, PLUMBING COATS' 5 10 MARIE'S BEAUTY SHOP STARLIGHT CAFE GAMBLE'S STORE HARDING'S GARAGE HENRY HUBBERT, PRAIRIE FARMS FROST'S DRUG STORE TAYLOR'S GARAGE WINCHESTER MARINE FUNDEL'S GROCERY QUALITY CLEANERS PLA MOR BILLIARDS SAM PEAK, INSURANCE BROCK'S MOTEL NINA LEE'S BEAUTY SHOP SLATERS SHOE STORE PATTERSON'S FURNITURE STORE DAVE'S GROCERY STORE CHARLES AND GAYLE MARSHALL KING’S PLUMBING AND HEATING SLAGLE'S INSURANCE POWER'S GROCERY HATCHER'S TRUCKING CARL GREGORY DR. A bleak year was facing Win-Co-Hi's Music Department in September '66 when it was still without an instructor. But in October the course of tire department made a very sharp upward turn with the arrival of Mr. Sam Schmidt who took over the band and the chorus. Interest in tire arts saw a new high as die chorus rose to excellence, and tire band showed a marked improvement. A stage band was organized, and guitars and drum sets found their way to our stage. The year was highlighted in December with the program, Christmas in Music and Light . A full-length cheesecloth scrim stretching the width of the stage separated tlie band on the front stage from the chorus at the back. A flood of blue light illuminated the choir during their numbers while red house lights and front border lights featured the band. The audience was entertained at times with the stereo sound of two brass choirs composed of alumni. With the final choral selection, Fanfare for Christmas Day , four paintings were flooded with light giving a stain-glass window effect with breath-taking beauty. The countless hours of preparation for the program were w'ell spent for surely it was nothing like Win-Co-Hi had seen before. Members in the Music Department experienced a year of hard work and dedication, and as a result can look back on it as a year of great achievement. As the couples arrived they entered the Dixie Bar Cassino over the gangplank and past the ship's paddle wheel. There they found a room decorated with giant cards, dice, and tables on which tiny kerosene lamps were burning. Through the entrance to the ballroom they heard the music of Bob Boyd's orchestra playing under subdued red lights with a gold chandelier glittering overhead. The cove of white pillars and canopy where the band was seated added to the riverboat effect. Under the ceiling of red and gold the giant showboat mural came to life. Compliments of: NEAT, CONDIT AND GROUT BANK Compliments of: THOMAS STORE, Phone 5516 14 SHOWBOAT On Thursday evening, May 5th, the classes of '66 and '67 and the faculty enjoyed a smorgasbord at the Blackhawk. White candles standing amidst turquoise angel hair and carnations decorated tire tables. After the banquet, music from the Intruders filled the room as tables were pushed back, and everyone danced. With the money we earned at bake sales, we began building our treasury and donated money to buy shrubbery for the beautification of our school. Freshmen class officers were: president, Randy Coonj vice-president, Jerry Gregory; secretary, Dale Baird; Treasurer, Carol Wisdon. Our sponsors were Mrs. Merriman and Mr. Landon. We sailed through a smooth sophomore year with George Cowper as president; Peggy Williams, vice-president; Regina Thomas, secretary. The sponsors were Mrs. Hobbs and Mr. Landon. A highly successful magazine sale began our junior year. That fall we produced the Junior Play, A Touch of Magic , directed by Mrs. Brink. This was the year the junior boys helped our football team to become the undefeated IVC champs. In the spring the annual Junior-Senior Banquet was held at the Blackhawk Restaurant, followed by an informal dance which featured the music of the Intruders. Our long weeks of prom planning were rewarded when at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13, the juniors welcomed the seniors to Showboat . Music was provided by Bob Boyd's orchestra. Junior officers were: president, George Cowper; vice-president, Patti Wiley; secretary, Mary Ray; treasurer, Robert Moore; student council, Dale Baird. That year we owed special thanks to our sponsors Mrs. Hobbs, Mr. Landon, and Mr. Foley. In the fall of 1966, eighty-four confident seniors entered Win-Co-Hi to complete their high school careers. A busy year followed with work on the yearbook, the Wildcat's Meow , the senior play, and plans for college and the future. Becky Stice was crowned homecoming queen at the dance following the game. The year's activities came to a close with Baccalaureate and Commencement. Compliments of: JOYCE A. September found the juniors selling magazines to earn money to finance their spring activities. Mumify 'em was the float that represented '68 in the homecoming parade. Toward the end of the year, as they plan their farewell activities for the senior class, the juniors begin to realize that next year they'll be seniors and start thinking seriously about their future plans for college entrance or jobs. The junior year is an important and exciting one as it brings the class closer to the climax of their high school career. Best Wishes, Class of '68.
