The band marched at four home football games, including the homecoming, and went to Roodhouse and Carrollton to act as a pep squad. The band was represented this year at the Uni- versity of Illinois All-State Band, which was held during the Thanksgiving holiday. Students also at- tended the band clinic at Macomb, Illinois, under the direction of Paul Yoder. A combined concert with Bluffs band was given March 26 and 27 at Winchester and Bluffs. A band and chorus concert was given in May. They also participated in the contest this year at Carlinville, Illinois. Guy Paul Corn Day was held October 21, 1953, for the purpose of raising money for the band. The farmers in the district had been solicited a few days before, so on this day the students went out in trucks to collect the corn. Several bus loads of students also went out and picked up corn that had been left in the fields, which the farmers had donated. All this corn was sold to Merritt elevator, which had offered the highest price per bushel. The total amount raised from the sale of corn and contributions of money from townspeople was about 3800. This year has been a very successful year, and the band is looking forward to many more.
