Drama at the high school has seen many new changes this year. For the first time, Curtain and Cue was separat¬ ed and declared independent of both the fall play and spring musical. Cheryl Howard of the English department agreed to serve as advisor to the club, leaving one important question unan¬ swered: Who would direct the fall play? To the students ' surprise and delight English teacher Bil Johnson took the job. Mr. Johnson was determined to at¬ tempt a full-scale dramatic play, and not a comedy, as Brian Milauskas chose to present last year. He selected Sam She¬ pard ' s chiling Buried Child , a person¬ al favorite of his, because he felt it to be a play students could relate to, experi¬ ment with, and test their abilities as dra¬ matic actors to the fullest. Over forty students auditioned for the show, of which Johnson selected seventeen for a week long callback. Buried Child succeeded in every way. It drew an impressive audience, boasted the first matinee performance even at W.H.S., and, hopefully, shall en¬ courage future students at WHS to test their dramatic abilities. And now the second half of Curtain and Cue ' s drama extravaganza is pro¬ gressing with the flair in the form of that favorite musical drama Joseph and the Amazing Technicolar Dreamcoat. En¬ thusiasm is running high on stage as the cast examines new approaches to this oldy but goody. Hopefully, the play will provide a climatic end to a year of hard work. Will McCarter looks distressed at the thought of two more hours of rehearsal. The spring musical gets off to a productive start with director Mary Wilson. The director and complete cast of Buried Child who made the final cut were (L to R) Eric Mortensen, Colin Stryker, Katrina Nelson, Chuck Latta, David Lewis, Bil Johnson, Ana Perez, and Chris Alexander. memm public library $iNgHi§TIR, MASS. Ben Porter and Janice Coakley went very formal the night of the Sophomore Semi. Beth Karis escorted her date to his first WHS social. The knights of the round table and their ladies were Randy Hesse, Nancy Spencer, Joan Matelli, Chuck Shannon, Juliet Estridge, Eric Mortensen, Mike Bauers, Stephanie Smith, David Walsh, Annette Curran, Therese Krajewski, and Keith Leonard. The sophomore class held its first semi January 11, 1986, at 7:30 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. For ten dol¬ lars, sophomores could enjoy the music of the DJ — even though the records skipped a little — and party with their friends. Couples boogied down to “Shout and tried to ignore the dance floor ' s shaking during Morris Day ' s “Oak Tree. Flowers were everywhere — exotic corsages and elegant boutin- iers. Even though the dance was a semi- formal, there were top hats, tails, and even a few limos showed up to escort dates home at 11:30 after having a memorable evening. 30 Sophomore Semi
