Getting Psyched for the Blastoff As is the tradition, Nicky Geannaris and Dennis Clark greeted T.J. Dellasala as he came to stand next to them. Every year Mr. Larocco adds a lot of spirit and feeling to the Pep Rally and this year was no exception. How could a Pep Rally be the same without music? The Band was an essential element to the Pep Rally. 21

4 The Football Team had only lost a sin¬ gle game all season. Spirits were high. Winchester had enjoyed a competitive sports season and had emerged ahead. It was time to celebrate! The band, the Cheerleaders, the Soc ¬ cer teams, the Swim teams, the Field FHockey team, and of course the Foot¬ ball team were all there to testify to Winchester ' s athletic prowess. Despite a few weak and fidgety wave-starters, the Pep Rally was a success. After being urged to make speeches, the captains, coaches, and the rest of the Football team defeated Woburn on a snowing Thanksgiving Day. . ' • ■pitwr t w The Cheerleaders built a new pyramid during the Rally and added to the excitement. Building up momentum, the Football team ran toward the Sachem sign, intending to run through it. 20 The Tumblettes were filled with energy and excitement this year, making their performance great.

As the sophomore class president, Sonia Ahmed organized the show with the help of Ms. Martin, Mr. Skinder, and other teachers who helped chaperone. The group Raw Deal with Bill Lee, Seb O ' Brien, Michael Fielike, and Dean Jackson performed with great enthusiasm. Outside it was cold and icy. From a distance the high school looked queer and tranquil. Yet little did onlookers know what was happening behind the doors of the crowded auditorium. The powerful rock sounds of Raw Deal, 5150, Alloy, White Steel, and Val Halla spewed forth from every speaker. The high school was alive with the sounds of the Battle of the Bands. A new and innovative idea for Fund raising, the Battle of the Bands pitted five unique bands against one another and let the audience decide whom they preferred. Making this choice was diffi¬ cult, due to faulty sound systems and bad accoustics. However, Winchester High School rocked the night away. Paul Beck had a great voice and James Dineen, Ken Barclay, John Newcome, and Anthony Morris of Alloy were also excellent. 22
