Jorgen Rasmussen from Fauborg, Denmark has participated in football, track, Spanish and French clubs. Jose Leitao from Sao Luis, Brazil has been active in the chess club, Spanish club, and played his guitar for Extravaganza. Both students have exchanged their ideas and customs with us. So in the future if you ever get to Denmark or Brazil—look them up. people produce successes 7 faces and more faces 8 1 Saturday in the park “Saturday in the Park, Mav 4. 1974. A fantastic prom for the Seniors from the Juniors. The music was provided bv Mussel from Evansville and Owensboro. Talking to the clowns and swinging in the swings b the fountain, all memories gone by. Ilappv memories. Beginning with the stroll through the park, the horse and buggv ride, all the way to the crowning of the queen, Jill Thompson and her attendants, Roxanne dad and Susie Williams. ThtvGrand March, the after prom, eating chicken and ice cream, and finally dancing the last dance. It seemed like it would never come, yet it was all over too quickly. It's good to know you've got a friend. 10 you’d think it was the 4th of may n an a tribute to seniors Remember when it started? With a tear in the eye but trying to be brave. As yon said good-bye to mommy and daddy and started vour long journey ahead? Remember the indoor monkey-bars, all the games, and putting your picture on a slme box, in which you kept your l est drawing? The naps, the milk and cookie snacks; All things of the past. First grade came along and suddenly you were no longer the babies. You were finally someone OLDER in school. There were “Tom and Susan,” and who could forget “Flip the faithful dog in our advanced readers. The years went by and suddenly you were past third grade and on your way to fourth. What happened to those years? Suddenly elementary years were half over. A bit braver. More willing to do things. Remember how you felt as you grew older. A more daring person. Fifth grade brought vour special friend. One you’ll never forget in all the years ahead. Special parties. Special places. Special times. Memories that never die. Where did it all go? Remember the day your sixth grade teacher told you it was half over; And vou should start thinking of your life after school is over with you. Remember your answer to him? “School ending is so far away, I have all the time in the worltl to make the decision.” Do you have all the time? Big time was just around the corner. 7th grade. Jr. High. Older at last! Yes, Older at last . . . Bands, dances, sports! What more was there for you? 8th grade! The oldest in the Jr. High and the excitement of starting High School. And then it came. 9th grade with biology: Cutting up your first frog, and the going to lunch only to be followed by Phys. Ed. So many new things happened to you! Your first Homecoming, and better, a Sectional victory and a trip to the Regional. The Sophomore year brought your chance to give the Freshman what you got before. Maybe your first prom. Another year. Another Homecoming. Another Sectional, but no trip to the Regional. THINGS STARTED TO CHANGE FOR YOU. You saw things in a more grown up manner. Met your someone special. Had dates. The Prom your Junior year. Your Prom; no. Our Prom. Seniors. That’s almost the end. Homecoming, the Sectional, with another trip to the Regional. The Prom given to honor us. Graduation announcements. A busy year; one never to forget. Graduation. The End ... Or is it? No, it is a new beginning in to bigger and better things in life. New goals to set and accomplishments to reach. Remember, trying to be brave, but with a tear in your eye, leaving the building for the last time; Saying good-bye to old friends you may never see again or who may remain friends for life. A year never to be forgotten. Memories always to remember. A past part of life with a bigger future ahead. —Janeil Martin, Senior ’74 graduation brings memories The 1974 graduating Senior class was represented by Pam Monroe (upper left) as valedictorian and Belinda Shanks (upper right) as salutatorian. Theirs was an impressive ceremony with words from class officers such as Cheryl Owens and Craig Grow. Graduation addresses were presented by Rev. Verl.ee and Mr. Odle. The highlight of the evening was the diploma presentation. The class was sung to beautifully by the choir and solemnly escorted from the gym to the music provided by the VVCHS concert band. 14 of those things gone by As von look through the school for the last time this year, you realize another year has gone by. year of fun and laughter. For some, mavbe it svas great, for others, not so great, but whether you realize it or not, you’ll never forget some things. There's a little bit of good in the worst of us. There’s a little hit of had in the best ol us. It's about half and half in the rest of us . . . But we are all individuals. All 750 of us. When vou're down and troubled and you need some love and care, and nothing, nothing is going light. Close sour eves and think of me and soon I will he there, to brighten up even your darkest night. Isn't it good to know You’ve Got a Friend! 17 Freshman Biology and Phys. Then sentimentality begins to show when these oldest students discover their “last” of high school—their last basketball game, their last prom, their very last day of school. When graduation day arrives and the seniors receive their diplomas, twelve years of learning seem only to have been a few fleeting moments of fun and friends. This election was unique because for the first time freshmen were eligible for the B-team squad. As a result two freshmen made the B-team squad. The girls attended summer cheerleading camp with the varsity squad bringing home the “Spirit Stick”. Also the freshman won first place at their camp. The cheerblock honored senior team members, cheerleaders, and their parents at final games of both the football and basketball season. During sectional and regional week the cheerleaders served breakfast to the basketball team. The year ended with a field trip for advanced students to Ball State during Foreign Language Day. Spanish Club had a full “calendarin'’ of events. Fellowship of Christian Athletes, was initiated in Winchester in 1972. This huddle group is sponsored by Mr. Pat Rady and Mr. Bill Bush. The bimonthly meetings arc held in various members homes. They discuss the role, responsibilities and problems of the Christian Athlete in school and community life. To be eligible to belong, a boy must be an athlete or team manager. F.C.A. has sponsored several activities including painting halls in the Monk's Home. In addition they acted as “big brothers” to several Morton elementary boys bv taking them to a Ball State football game and prosiding a Christmas party. The highlight of the year is the week long summer camp held in Rome, Georgia. 71 honor society publishes handbook 72 Initiation was held this year on November 21. Twenty-three new members were inducted. As fund-raising projects, they conducted a gas raffle in January and sold sectional badges in February. Members participated in the Heart Fund Drive.
