Senior Vanessa Gamester was crowned WCHS Homecoming Queen to reign over The Jungle ' Fun night started Homecoming activities as each class struggled to win the Spirit Stick. The Class of 73 and the class of 75 tied for the honor; bonfire closed the evening. The WCHS Marching Show Band led the traditional Homecoming Parade through downtown Winchester Saturday evening. School organizations, cheer- leaders, football players, princesses and queen candidates all added excitement to the festivities. Halftime of the WCHS-Portland game was eagerly awaited by all. The Ju- niors ' Pot of Luck ' was named winner of the float contest. After a vote by the student body. Vanessa Gamester was named Homecoming Queen. The queen ' s court included Daralee Dwiggins and Kathy Haviza. Susie Williams, Paula Fraze, and Bobbie Wolfe represented their classes as Princesses. Homecoming ' 72 was almost a total success— Portland defeated the Golden Falcons 44-8. 1972 Homecoming Queen— Vanessa Game- ster; Principal Mr. Jones proudly places the gold cape on the 1972 reigning Queen. The B- team cheerleaders Kathy Kolp, Diane McCormick, Maria Macy and the freshmen cheerleaders Rhonda Cox, Pam Hyer, Dodie Ferrell, and Bobbie Wolfe gave the floor a new sparkle. The Cheerblock started off the year with the membership of a new freshmen class and new uniforms. The vivacious girls sold stationery and raffled off cakes and a basketball to pay part of their uniform expense. 1 1 1 1 1 1 II!! r I X Preparedness— The Key to Opportunity inFHA Honor Society honors Heart Fund The heart fund collection was put in memory of Mr. LeMaster, a de- ceased Math teacher of W.C. F.T.A. Learns Through Cadet Teaching F.F.A. Learns Through Experience Let us entertain you ' i Winchester Community High School What Is Band? People ask what is band? Band is the Bluffton Street Fair, the rainouts at football games, rank practice at 6:30 A.M. , getting sick of root beers after four weeks straight, and seeing the band director get red in the face. Band is excite- ment, whether winning a big contest, such as second place in the Delaware County Fair, or watching a scaffolding fall from the top of the auditorium. Hard work— Michigan Tulip Festival, stage band, and band camp— you better believe it. But in the final outcome, after amassing the trophies, depositing the prize money, and relieving the tired muscles, looking back you think: To be in band is to be proud (not only of your school, but also of yourself.) There is one person that works extra hard to make Winchester have such an excellent band and that is the band director, Mr. Max Jones. The 73 Stage Band A A A r% I 11 ;l . Molly Brown played by Teri Zicht was unsinkable with her lively and vivid language of the unpolished people of early mining years. Johnny Brown was played by Kevin Fouse. For Molly he was willing to listen, Cause he had him a gal that burnt money up. Shamus portrayed by Terry Bousman was a typical early mining-country father of three sons and Molly. Rich Meriman played His Royal Highness, Prince Delong a young man of Royal Class. Jennifer Barga played Mrs. McGlone a rich, snobbish socialite of Denver. This musical was produced and musically directed by Mr. Charles Buckley, and dramatic direction was under the supervision of Mrs. Lois Longenbaugh. 1973 EXTRAVAGANZA ■ir-: sfifc. ••• ' , ' J « - I 10 1973 ATHLETICS Gridiron begins new year Front: Bernie Fraze, Scott Fleming, Craig Grow, Dave Milev, Allen Hahn, Jim Byrd, Bill Woolf, Mike Towne, Second: Tim Fouse, Gary Anderson, Jim Green, Jerry Morrison, Myron Durham, George Daggett, Thad Able, Dave Reno, Third: Student Teacher Mr. Cooper, Asst.
