On Friday preceding Homecoming, four new events consisting of tug-of-war, balloon throwing, tricycle race, and sack races were added to the celebration. Class competition was fierce and the events produced laughs and excitement. A highlight was the Eagle funeral procession staged by the senior boys. The final activity was the Homecoming bonfire whose flames will remain with seniors forever. May 8th and 9th, 1970, the sounds of Winchester's sixth musical, My Fair Lady resonated throughout the W. C. auditorium. It came after two months of painstaking rehearsals in which cast, directors, and technicians strived to attain perfection. As did each preceding musical. My Fair Lady surpassed all others in originality, creativity, and production. At Left: Duane VanNote, who played Alfred Doolittle. Mr. Charles Buckley was the musical director and Mrs. Lois Longenbaugh was the dramatic director. 6 Left to right: Debbie Baldwin as Mrs. Hill ' Keith Brouse lie Mills as Colonel Pickering ' Shelley Symmes as Mrs. as Freddy Hill ' Linnda Morgan as Eliza Doolittle ' Char- Higgins ' IN BACK: Tom Mullens as Henry Higgins. 7 On May 15, 1970 the Age of Aquarius descended upon the Winchester fieldhouse. Consisting of blue and silver colors, the twelve signs of the zodiac, and a rotating queen stand, the Junior class created a contemporary and colorful atmosphere. At 10:15 p.m. Mr. Jones announced the long awaited queen results with Connie Weekley, Diana Bolinger, and Connie Fields becoming the evening's royalty. Though corsages wilt and formals fade, a Senior's memory of the Prom never withers in his heart. 8 Underclass High School Scholastic Awards: STANDING L. to R., Rick Study, Soph.; Kris Overmyer and Connie Oxley, Juniors; Fred Groth, Freshman. Senior Honor Day 1970 On May 22, 1970 the Seniors of W.C.H.S. were honored for their academic achievements. Over 40 seniors received recognition for their accomplishments and potential scholarship money totaled over 90,000 dollars. Upon conclusion of the program Seniors received their wills and practiced for commencement, thus providing a day long instilled in our hearts. To the left: Debbie Stipp and Tony Odom, recipients of the C. P. Overmyer Scholarships. Below: Jerry Brown, who was awarded the Edward S. Goodrich Scholarship. 10 Representing the Class of 70, Mary Stump, Valedictorian; Dick McCord, Salutatorian. 11 Athletic scholarships awarded to: I. to r. Randy Hahn, Lowell Drill, Tim Skinner, Robbie Slick. Conference Golf Winners congratulated by Coach Bruckheimer. Senior Blanket Awards presented by Coach Wiggs. A highlight of any boy's high school career is the athletic awards day when he receives his rewards. Whether it be a freshman boy receiving his first numeral or a Senior achieving an M.V.P. in football, the sacrifices of athletic practices are finally rewarded before the whole student body. 12 Mr. Fidler's 4A Woods class completed a successful year. Through their efforts they built three red barns which wer? sold to people of the community. The purpose of constructing these barns was to teach the boys the varied aspects of carpentry such as designing windows, siding, roofing, and doors. The boys fabricated the barns completely by themselves with Mr. Fidler supervising. Members of the class are Mike Bolich, Brad Howell, Dave Slusher, Bruce Collins, Tom Antrim, Don Kolp, Lowell Drill, Jeff Cowden, Steve Fogle, Mike Hall, Donnie Myers, Hubert Swartz, and Mike Osborne. 13 Graduation Day There's a time for joy, a time for tears A time we'll treasure through the years We'll remember always Graduation Day. At the Junior Prom we danced till three It was worth the time and energy We'll remember always Graduation Day. 14 Though we leave in sorrow All the joys we've known We can face tomorrow All our memories we've known. When the ivy walls are far behind No matter where our paths may wind We'll remember always The Class of Seventy. —Adapted from Beach Boys 15 WE PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO: Family School Community State Country and to the peace of all mankind. They easily rolled over eight of the opposing teams. This almost flawless record was spoiled by a rough loss to the Delta Eagles. This year's team was composed mainly of seniors. These men were a hard working group who were dedicated to the task of completing a season that everyone could be proud of. They were never satisfied with good enough. As a result, they did indeed give us a season that we could boast about. 90 Touchdown!!! Who's got the ball? During twelve weeks this winter the boys gathered each week for an evening of spirited play. The season culminated with the annual tournament. The final game saw a battle between Dick McCord's rebounders and Jerry Clevenger's shooters. Jerry Clevenger's team emerged victorious on a key basket by Craig Hinshaw. 101 FIRST ROW: Mark Lake, Rick Landess, Greg Peterson, John Morris, Rocky Paschal, Dave Valandingham, Steve Lake, SECOND ROW: Kevin Potter, Fred Beu, Jeff Manning, Steve Moore, Bruce Fidler, George Hunt, Kris Overmyer, Jim Hodson, Coach Gary Phillips, THIRD ROW: Allan Cummings, Mike Whitehead, Dan Moore, Steve Jones. 102 Steve Lake 104 105 COMMUNITY Throughout the history of Winchester Community High School, the people of Winchester and the surrounding communities of Saratoga and Ridgeville have supported the school with donations and time. A time to be born, A time to die, A time to plant, A time to reap, A time to kill, A time to heal, A time to laugh, A time to weep. To everything turn, turn, turn, There is a season turn, turn, turn. And a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to build up, A time to break down A time to dance, A time to mourn A time to cast away with stones, A time to gather stones together. A time of love, A time of hate A time of war, A time of peace A time you may embrace, A time to refrain from embracing. A time to gain, A time to lose A time to reap, A time to sew A time to love, A time to hate, A time of peace, I swear it's not too late. —PETESEEGER adapted from Ecclesiastes 134 % l4 • Congratulations Class of 70 G'TEC CABLE Better T.V.
