THE WINCHENDON SCHOOL 172 Ash Street Winchendon, Massachusetts 01475 Volume XXXIV 1996 The Winchendon School Ash Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts 01475 Te1ephor1e:508-297-1223 Fax: 508-297-0911 j.Wi11iam LaBe11e Headmaster October 9, 1995 Dear Members of the Class of 1996. An advertisment in a popular weekly periodical contains the headline, more freedom, less commitment . Elsewhere in the ad is the statement more options, less obligation . The statements pertain to buying CD's or cassettes, but they can also, it is sad to say, be watch words for much that is happening in our society today. Many seem to live by the belief that we can find our ultimate sense and happiness in unlimited individual freedom. This has made it easy for people to abandon personal obligation and commitment and to resort to easy solutions to problems. lt is my belief that true happiness comes from being committed to people, philosophies and missions outside of oneself. Our ultimate satsifaction comes in being useful to others. ln order to do that we must be educated and dedicated. I encourage you to pursue your education vigorously and to find your place in the world where you : tn stand for something and make a difference. On behalf of the faculty Mrs. LaBelle and I wish you success and fulfillment. ff- Sincerely, s ,.Q,g.444.e 7 J. Love, Mom and Dad Dear Nobuko, You have done a good job! Congratulations and Best Wishes for a successful future. With love and pride, Bi g Brother Iason, DON 'T QUIT When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low, and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit- Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Success is failure turned inside out, The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar. So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit- It's when things go wrong that you musn't quit. Author Unknown We are all so proud of you!
