The Winchendon School ly '1 ' r The Winchendon School is lo- cated in Winchendon, a small town nestled in Central Massachusetts. Winchendon is a picturesque and historic area. The school is located at the former sight of the Toy Town Tavern. The Tavern was re- nowned for its beautiful 18 hole golf course, which the school now operates and its gorgeous sur- rounding scenery set near the base of Mt. Monadnock. The resort was also the favorite of the foliage lov- ers, as the area is ablaze with color every autumn. The school grounds are also very unique. There are a number of very old buildings which are owned by the school to go along with the newer school built struc- tures. Among the older buildings is the Art building which was built around 1890 and Cottage which was built around 1895. The oldest buildings on campus are Post House and the original part of Ford Hall. They were built in 1770 and 1775 respectively. Posich was originally built as a heating plant and was finished in 1875. The newer buildings include the Science Building, Marr Li- brary Building, South and Merrell Dorms. The school has gone through many changes and much progress in recent years. The most tangible physical difference was the . erecting of the extensive new gymnasium under the supervision of 4 our Headmaster, J. William LaBelle. The Gym turned a lacking athletic department into a strong point for the school. lt has also been enhanced by the addition of this year's excellent basketball program. The enrollment this year seems to be higher than last, as well as a stronger student quality. This shows that the school continues to make progressive strides, both with facility expansion and the academic program. Yes, Winchendon has seen many changes but through them all, we have maintained the struc- ture and the tradition on which the school was founded. All in all, as the school looks toward a fu- ture that is very bright. By: Geoff Millar '94

The board of trustees evaluates the Headmaster and sets the broad policy under which the Head administers the school. The Winchendon School is fortunate to have the capable and dedicated service of its board of trustees, many members of which have loyally supported the school for many years.
