Class History of 1956 At the beginning of the school year there were thirty-one freshman. They were as follows: Lois Arndt, Geneva Brown, Esther Clair, James Clair, Carl Cox, Joanne Cox, Arlene Crook, George Dougherty, Jack Doyle, Richard Heinz, Shirley Miller, DickO’Gara, Larry Peth, Lawrence Phalin, Marvin Pasch, Mike Rice, Vivian Reineke, Richard SchendeL Elizabeth Schulte, Everett Sanborn, William Short, Jean Simonson, Robert Sullivan, Shirley Switz, Freda Stone, kay Welch, Rudolph Wendland, Audrey Winchell, Gene Wood, JerelynZellmer, and Kenneth Wilson. Class officers were as follows: President, Vivian Reineke: Vice-President, Kay Welch; Secretary, Dick O’Gara; Treasurer, William Short. On September 17, we were initiated by the Sophomores. During the day, the girls were dressed in boys pajamas and the boys wore nightgowns. At the party that night we danced and played games. Lunch was served. Those in chorus were: Vivian Reineke and Jerelyn Zellmer. The boys taking part in sports were: Mike Rice, William Short, Larry Peth, Robert Sullivan, and Dick O’Gara. Participating in A-Band was Kenneth Wilson. Those playing in B-Band were: Shirley Miller and Larry Peth. Shirley Miller was also a majorette in the A-Band. Vivian Reineke was a B-team cheerleader. We returned to school on August 31, with twenty-eight members. We lost four classmates during the year: Carl Cox, Freda Stone, Shirley Miller, and Arlene Crook. Class officers for the year were as follows: President, Kay Welch; Vice-President, Robert Sullivan; Secretary, Mike Rice; Treasurer, George Dougherty. We held initation for the freshman in the Wilton Park, September 25. Mr. Campbell took pictures. We also had our Christmas Party in the Science Room, December 18. We played games and exchanged gifts. Those participating in A-Band: Vivian Reineke, Kenneth Wilson, and Elizabeth Schulte. Participating in Sports: George Dougherty, Richard Heinz, Dick O’Gara, Mike Rice, WilliamShort, and Robert Sullivan. In chorus were: Lois Arndt, Geneva Brown, Esther Clair, Joanne Cox, Larry Peth, Vivian Reineke. William Short, Jean Simonson, Robert Sullivan, Shirley Switz, Arlene Crook, Kay Welch, Audrey Winchell, Elizabeth Schulte, and Jerelyn Zellmer. In Pep Club: Lois Arndt, Joanne Cox, George Dougherty, Richard Heinz, Dick O’Gara, Larry Peth, Mike Rice, William Short, Kay Welch, and Elizabeth Schulte. Members of the Student Council were Kay Welch and Dick O’Gara. Again that year Vivian Reineke was a cheerleader for the B-team. Our first big event of the year was our class play, Swing your Partner,” under the direction of Mrs. Landgraf. It was held in our gym, November 18, 1954. On February 22nd. the Junior Class were guests of the sophomore class at a party. We were entertained with volleyball and square dancing. Delicious refreshments were served. Our next big event was the Junior Prom, April 22, 1955. On February 16th George Dougherty was chosen king. He chose Elizabeth Schulte as his queen. Robert Sullivan was prince; he chose Marian Bever as his princess. The theme was “Melody of Love.” Don Kaye provided the music for the evening. Those participating in sports were: George Dougherty, Richard Heinz, Dick O’Gara, Mike Rice, and Robert Sullivan. Robert Sullivan and Mike Rice represented our class on the basketball A-team. Members of the A-Band were: Kenneth Wilson, and Elizabeth Schulte. Vivian Reineke was a majorette for the band. Singing in chorus were: Lois Arndt, Billy Short, Robert Sullivan, Richard Heinz, Kay Welch, Audrey Winchell, Esther Clair, Joanne Cox, Vivian Reineke, Jean Simonson, Elizabeth Schulte, and Jerelyn Zellmer. Class officers were as follows: President, Elizabeth Schulte; Vice-President, George Dougherty; Secretary, Kay Welch; Treasurer, Audrey WinchelL We started our senior year with 25 members. Class officers were as follows: President, George Dougherty; Vice-President, Audrey Winchell; Secretary, Lois Arndt; Treasurer, Kay Welch. On November 17th we presented our Senior Class Play, “Headin’ For The Hills.” It was a huge success.
