“
With the knowledge that with their counsel there is yet peace and love, and a deeper, calmer faith for us to seek, we the class of 1956, dedicate this Wiltonian to our parents and guardians, who have made our four years of high school the happiest of our lives. Not only have they shared our sorrows but also our joys. They have given of their time and effort to guide us along the path to becoming better citizens. In Memory New Year’s Day, 1956 was saddened by the sudden death of Bernard Johnson, better known to many friends as “Barney.” Barney had been the driver of the school bus for Wilton Public Schools for many years. Students and friends alike loved him. His memory will always remain alive in the hearts of Wilton students and faculty members, past and present, as the man whose heart was bigger than the world itself. Large was his bounty, and his soul sincere, Heav’n did a recompense as largely send He gave to Mis’ry all he had, a tear. He gain’d from Heav'n (‘twas all he wish’d) a friend. Thomas Gray IRVIN H. Class Will of 1956 In a sunny day in May, 1966, the Wilton 400 roared into the depot, deposited a few passengers and one article of baggage, a card-board box with the simple address--Wilton, Wisconsin. Evening came and the box remained alone on the depot platform, catching many curious eyes. Then a hobo came by and after long deliberation he opened the box. A carefully typed manuscript greeted his eye and this is what it said: We, the graduating class of Wilton High School, in the year of 1956, being of sound mind, hereby declare this our last will and testament. Wilton won the M-V conference undefeated for the second consecutive year and this gave us a string of 17 consecutive conference wins. We have won the M-V conference championship for three consecutive years. Over a period of three years Wilton had won 25 consecutive home games before dropping a hard fought game to New Lisbon. It marked the first time we have been defeated in our new gym. Duane Granger and Mike Rice finished one-two in the individual conference scoring race with 129 and 122 points respectively. Wilton had the best defensive and the second best offensive average in the M-V conference with 41 and 56 points per game respec- tively. Wilton is looking forward to another fine season next year as we lose only two regulars off the main ten; they are Bob Sullivan and Mike Rice.
