Class History At the beginning of our Freshman year in '47 our class consisted of twenty-seven students: Norman Anderson, Dorothy Bolwahn, Shirley Brandenburg, Hazel Downing, Mary Doyle, Carol Eckelberg, Caroline Flock, Mary Gallagher, Conalee Geier, Royce Kortbein, Buster Hart, Norman Kuderer, Marlene Martalock, Betty Meacham, Donald Moore, Bill Rice, Carolyn Schindler, Bruce Schnurr, Charlene Schroeder, Gary Schultz, Carl Stone, Shirley Shippee, Eileen Simonson, Joyce Stark, Audrey Steinke, Lloyd Switz, and John Wiseman. The teachers for this year were: Principal-Mr. Valesh, English-Miss Gleiss, Commercial-Miss Steinhoff, History-Mr. Loff, and Agriculture-Mr. Path. Class officers elected were: President-Carol Eckelberg, Vice-President-John Wiseman, Secretary-Dorothy Bolwahn, Treasurer-Joyce Stark, and Class Advisor-Mr. Valesh. Our initiation party was held at night in the country. There were stunts and a lunch was served us by the Sophomores. Rotten tomatoes contributed by “guests” made it very exciting. Later in the year a return party was given to the Sophomores. Marjorie Budde joined us later in the year. Carl Stone. Buster Hart, and Donald Moore left. Our colors for the school basketball tournament were Green and Black and the chosen name was Freshman Black Bombers. Caroline Flock, Betty Meacham, and Dorothy Bolwahn were cheerleaders. Those who participated in Forensics were: Marlene Martalock and Carolyn Schindler. At the beginning of the Sophomore year our class enrollment was twenty-six. There were Norman Anderson, Dorothy Bolwahn, Shirley Brandenburg, Marjorie Budde, Hazel Downing, Mary Doyle, Carol Eckelberg, Caroline Flock, Mary Gallagher, Conalee Geier, Royce Kortbein, Bruce Harrison, Norman Kuderer, Marlene Martalock, Betty Meacham, Bill Rice, Carolyn Schindler, Bruce Schnurr, Charlene Schroeder, Gary Schultz, Shirley Shippee, Eileen Simonson, Joyce Stark, Audrey Steinke, Lloyd Switz, and John Wiseman. At this time our teachers were: Principal-Mr. Valesh, English-Mr. Ulvestad, History- Mr. Loff, Agriculture-Mr. Path, Commercial-Mrs. Flock, and Mr. Wetzel, Class Advisor- Mr. Path. The following officers were elected: President-Marlene Martalock, Vice-President- Gary Schultz, Secretary-Shirley Brandenburg, and Treasurer-Shirley Shippee. The Freshman initiation was held in October in the schoolhouse. We really didn’t initiate any of the “Green Horns'1. Recreation consisted of dancing, after which lunch was served. Later in the year they gave us a return party. Gary Schultz moved to South Beloit in February, but returned again in March. Mike Danaher joined us in January. Members of our class who joined the band were: Dorothy Bolwahn, Shirley Brandenburg, Bruce Harrison, Norman Kuderer, Marlene Martalock, Betty Meacham, Carolyn Schindler, Shirley Shippee, Joyce Stark, and John Wiseman. Marlene Martalock participated in Forensics. Caroline Flock was chosen as one of the high school cheerleaders. Boys playing on the basketball team were: Norman Anderson, Bruce Harrison, Royce Kortbein, Norman Kuderer, John Wiseman, Bill Rice, and Gary Schultz. The all-school basketball tournament was held early in the spring. Our team the Sophomore Blockheads captured third place. Marlene Martalock and Caroline Flock were mascots dressed as Hayseed Farmers”. The Junior Class consisted of: Norman Anderson, Dorothy Bolwahn, Shirley Brandenburg, Mary Doyle, Carol Eckelberg, Caroline Flock, Mary Gallagher, Conalee Geier, Ivars Groglavis, Royce Kortbein, Bruce Harrison, Norman Kuderer, Marlene Martalock, Betty Meacham, Bill Rice, Carolyn Schindler, Bruce Schnurr, Charlene Schroeder, Wayne Schindler, Eileen Simonson, Joyce Stark, Audrey Steinke, Lloyd Switz, and John Wiseman. This year the teachers are as follows: Principal-Mr. Valesh, History-M.-. Loff, Home Economics-Mrs. Patapoff, Mrs. Wendt, and Miss Stokke, Commercial-Mr. Cady, Agriculture- Mr. Chinnock, and English-Mr. Ulvestad. Our Class Advisor was Mr. Loff. In October we moved from the barracks into the new school building. I 11
