li THE EAGLE Why We Need a New School Building Wilton Academy was designed to accommo- date about one hundred and twenty pupils, but at our present state of enrollment it is accommodating nearly one hundred and eighty with promise of about twenty more next year which will raise the total to about two hundred. Besides the large number of Academy students, the four upper grades from the Grammar school hold their gymnasium classes in the Academy auditorium twice a week. As each gymnasium class includes about seventy pupils it is plainly shown that there is much noise and confusion whenever the classes pass. It is a well known fact that the old building is one of the worst fire traps in town, and we shudder when we think of what would happen if a iire should break out while the school is in, session. These are only a few reasons which we could set forth as proof of the urgent need of a new school building. Is the Year Book Worthwhile? The year book is a written record of 'the sch0ol's activities during one year. It tells about the athletic and scholastic achievements as well as the class plays and'other social activities. It creates popular interest in the school and gives a public insight into the ac- tivities of the pupils during the last year. A pupil, by buying the four or more issues which are published during his four years at W. A., will have a reliable record of the chief events which have happened while he has been at the academy. The year book also shows how Wilton Academy compares with other schools of its class, therefore we maintain that the year book is worthwhile. Gym. Classes This year another teacher was added to our faculty, Mr. White, who has charge of the gym classes and acts also as coach of athletics. Each boy and girl in school when not taking part in some sport is required to attend the gym classes two periods each week. These classes are to build up the body, for corrective exercises and for recreation. When the weather permits they are held out of doors. In the winter they were held in the gymna- sium. The first of the period was given to military drill and exercises to build the body up. The last of the period was taken up by relay races and games such as basketball and volleyball. -E. M. C., '31.
