EDNIOBJAL - The Passing of Knute Rockne Every football enthusiast in America was grief-stricken at the news of the tragic death ot' Knute lioellne, on March thirty-iirst. He had made at reputation for Notre Dame on the football field which has never been equalled. His combined success as a football player, couch, and strategist, has never been excelled. There may have been men who were as able in one or the other departments of the game, but none who hrve stood forth in all three ol' them as Knute Rockne has. He is best known as the head coach at Notre Dame University, for it is in this position that he made the Indiana Ilniversity famous. As a player' Knute Rockne was the best end that has ever represented Notre Dame on the gridiron. One of the finest tributes to Coach Rockne has been the wide demand for coaches who have studied under him. He once said, Football teaches a boy re- sponsibility-responsibility as a representative of his school: responsibility to his team matesg and responsibility in con'ro1ling his passions, fear, hatred, jealously, and rashness. Football brings out the best there is in every boy. It is with the deepest refzret that we look upon the passing of Knute Rockne. -E. Parker.
