With individualism, we have encouraged the desire to excel, to win, to profit. We have urged each of you to be the type of person who would rather be right than rich - one who would rather be on the right and losing side than on the wrong and winning side. 11114 I ,gW,,.f4w A,,,.v- The world around us is being torn to pieces so rapidly that none of you know just where we stand. Old institutions are breaking down and old ideas are being discarded. This results in a very great amount of confusion. You will be assailed by all sides by flocks of conflicting ideas and isms. Many times it will be hard to decide what to do. ln such cases, you will need a guide. I wish to suggest a helpful guide to you - the adoption of a good philosophy of life, a good viewpoint and a good set of standards by which you may judge various situations. Your viewpoint should be that of self, and you should judge a thing by what it will gain for you. However, since we must live in a world with others, unbridled selfishness invariably causes discord, jealousy, or ruin, so I'm suggesting the pholosophy of service. Remember that, He who would be greatest among you must be servant of ail. Congratulations to the Glide Path Staff for a very fine yearbook. lwish for each of you the best of good fortune and a useful, happy future. VERNON R.
