We did a lot of both this year and made big gains in our efforts to express ourselves. No. No. No! It ' s not good enough. Rewrite this! Newspapers are to be distributed in these areas, ' points out Ray Thomas. F.F.A To hope for improved agriculture, better rural communities, and more satis¬ fying farm home life and more efficient farmer-citizen. These and more are the aims of our Future Farmers. HORNET’S NEST A lot of hard work, deadlines to meet, pictures to take, bills to pay, and write ups to complete, that ' s us—your annual staff. A good deal of fun and many a good laugh is shared along with the work all through the year. 128 [ Look busy? Well, maybe just a little, but the annual staff does have to do plenty of work to turn out the annual. ■ u M OUTSTANDING WILSON STUDENTS Robert Earl Alley is one big, five foot five inch, grin. Being a ninth grade A and B student, and that includes Biology, Latin I, and Algebra I, he has plenty to grin about, although he con¬ fesses he worries a lot. He is in the F. T. A. and Latin Clubs. He likes to collect coins, and historical facts and browses into his ancestry. Future plans for this outstanding personality include teaching degrees in Math and History from Bridgewater College. Norman Vincent Coyner, 16, is more apt found shooting baskets in the lower end of the gym than anything else. This industrious sophomore made first-string Varsity Basketball this year. In addition to basketball he plays football. Norman has lived with his parents at Route 2, Staunton all his life and his hobbies are sports and listening to the radio. This robust, American boy likes ham¬ burgers, cokes, and ice cream. At least I ' m healthy, he adds. Sharon Deacon, a lively 10th grader, hails from Swoope, Virginia. She is presently living with her grandparents in Fishersville, Va. Deacon , as called by her friends, enjoys sports and likes to collect records. At school, she is on the girl ' s basketball, girl ' s softball, and tennis teams. When asked about Wilson she says, I ' m crazy about it! M 132 With plans for the University of Virginia ' s engineering, Wayne East enjoys many varied interests ranging from Boy Scouts to politics. Vivacious, bouncy Betsy Ellmore is one of Wilson ' s perky junior personali¬ ties. Betsy is the daughter of the Rever¬ end and Mrs. Emory S. Ellmore of Stuarts Draft. This brunette is a varsity cheerlead¬ er, a member of the Pep Club, Latin Club, and F. T. A. Betsy plans to attend Emory and Henry College. Ann Hutchison Lowman, a tall, slender brunette with a bubbling personality, is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. H. R. Lowman of Route No. 1, Grottoes. She fills her spare school hours by being the treasurer of the Beta Club and being an active member of the Pep Club and F. H. A. Ann is also the President of the Junior Class and an officer in her youth Fellowship. Music seems to be her only hobby but she has many favorite sports such as horseback riding, tennis, and swimming. 133 OUTSTANDING WILSON STUDENTS Ann Powell, a 17 year old senior comes from Memphis, Tennessee. She has been at Wilson for two years and is the Business Manager of the Hornet’s Nest. Her favorite hobbies are playing tennis, read¬ ing, swimming and watching sports. After graduating Ann plans to go to Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee. A senior, Steve Sniteman is the 17-year old son of Mr. Mrs. H. C. Sniteman. He was former Sophomore Class President, Sports edi¬ tor of the Annual Staff and S. C. A. Represen¬ tative. He’s popular, handsome, witty, and athletic. He spends his spare time with girls and cars. He is definitely planning a college educa¬ tion. John Reed, a fun-loving, flirty, sixteen-year old Junior also has his serious moments. He has served as Sophomore President and Freshmen Treasurer as well as participating in J. V. baseball and the Debate Club. With all his activities it is hard to believe he has time for collect¬ ing coins and stamps, reading and dancing. In the future he hopes to attend V. P. I. or the Naval Academy. 134 Stewart Thomas, a still growing 15 year old, is an eighth grader this year. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Thomas, Route 3, Staunton, Virginia. Stewart is S. C. A. Repre¬ sentative for his homeroom this year. His hobbies are building models and camp¬ ing. In his spare time he en¬ joys football and basketball. Tall, blond Bobbie Thompson is ac¬ tive in school athletics, participating in basketball, football, and baseball. He also served his school as treasurer for the S.C.A. Beneath this quiet exterior breathes a free thinking 9th grader, Denay Trykowski. There is nothing complacent about Denay or her ideas. For example, “Most T. V. is dumb,” Boys are o. k. if you like them,” and I ' m not Yankee or Southern. I’m American!” Her job as picture editor of the Annual coin¬ cides with her artistic hobbies and ambitions. Although this former New Yorker hasn’t made any definite future plans, she hopes to go to college and pursue an artistic career. 135 i OUTSTANDING WILSON STUDENTS Sandra Cornell West is quiet, beaming and has a main objective of making every¬ one else happy. She is 17 years old and is a senior here at Wilson. During her 5 years here, she has been a member of the Pep, Beta, and Latin Clubs. She is now the editor of the Annual Staff. After graduation, Sandy plans to at¬ tend Mary Washington College to major in Science to become a Physical Thera¬ pist. John Wetzel, a 6 4 ' seventeen year old senior, is the president of the Pep Club and a member of the Beta Club. The sports-minded vice-president of the Senior Class holds records in both track and basketball. In his Junior year, John attended Boy’s State. He is a good .student and plans to go to college somewhere in Virginia. Tom Trykowski, a Junior this year, lives at Route 1, Greenville, Va. with his parents. In his spare time he likes to read, try experiments in Science and he enjoys working on radios. He is hoping for a college education. 136 WILSON’S FUTURE HOMEMAKERS . . f Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble! ' ' What mysterious things have been happening behind the closed doors of the Home Economics buildings? And just why are they located way over on the other side of school? Well, there ' s a very important and secret reason. The teachers have been busy turning run- of-the-mill teenagers into capable and efficient future homemakers. Here is a glimpse at some finished products. 137 i ■ Dancing of various types and styles are seen, but the Twist has been this year ' s favorite. I 138 the SOCIAL CENTER Students come here in the morning to meet their friends and to start the day. Has anybody seen Mr. Baker? “Now you ' re learning.
