We appeared to be full of vitamins and knowledge, but facts are facts, and before many moons we realized considerably more work would be necessary for our welfare. However, we believed implicitly in the saying, All work and no play makes lack a dull boy. We did all we could to prevent lack's becoming dull. Way back there we had our introduction to biology, taught by the little man, one Elbert Ulysses Eberts. Then too, we met Lloyd Miller's grandma, so essential to the teaching of history. lt's a bird, it's a plane, no-just another Latin student breaking his back beneath a poster. By eleventh grade we were more confident and spent a good part of the term resting on our laurels. flncidentally we are still fond of resting, despite the lack of laurelsl. Being naturally ambitious and having a few hours to spare, we decided to show how a suc- cessful dance is run. The Irishman's Frolic we tagged it. Study? Oh no, not much. And how we pursued the arts-a sprinkling of shop to the tune of Mr. Brumbach's jokes. And hornernaking! Ten years from now a pupil will be able to point out the difference be- tween rayon and muslin, and with the help of a dressrnaker will be able to cut out a dress. Physics and Mr. Schuman-and we quote Get out your scrap tablets and lead pencils-and watch that beaker! Not to brag, of course, we were the first class to launch a card party. The profit-shhh-the sum would stagger you! Finally, the night of nights, our Iunior Prom. Spring had come! How We'd changed when we came back as seniors. In one respect, however, we hadn't changed. Over in a corner of the Wilson High School Athletic Field We see Wooly Ulrich, dressed in a red and white football uniform. The uniform is complete, but the mask he is wearing is a baseball catcher's mask. He is talk- ing to Earl Hertzog, a news editor for A.P. Earl is wearing a costume of the early eigh- teenth century that he wore in the 1946 Night of One-Act Plays. Arriving on the scene are Barry Bryson and Eva Yoder. Eva is secretary for Barry, who is President of a Real Estate Brokerage. They are dressed as Pilgrims. Their costumes are stunning and were designed by Iean Mervine, who is wearing an Elizabethan style dress. The hand-painted flowers on the sleeves are the Work of Iacqueline Mitchell, an artist of high repute. On the dancing platform we see Leon Blimline's Orchestra, featuring Nelson Zug on the drums, Thomas Derr on the trumpet, and Markus Schneiderhan, on the saxophone. Also playing with the orchestra tonight is Richard Moyer Know a veterinarianl playing the trombone. Stepping up to the mike is Virginia Phillips, a featured singer with Leon's orchestra. Dancing the Big Apple are Gaile Plank, a stenographer and lack Ouinter, a man of the World, Betty Peiffer, a registered nurse, and Robert Phillips, a fur dealer. Gliding by me now are Earl Hoyer and Marian Beahm, a dancing instructor. Where is all the laughter coming from? Oh, it's Westley Kretz. He's still as Witty as ever, and is wearing a ballet costume, right down to the tights. What a sight! That giggle belonged to Ianet Berkenstock. She's wearing a ballerina costume and is standing with lean Bower, a missionary, Marion Reedy, who is wearing a sparkling diamond on that certain finger, and Marie Wagner, who is a secretary for Sauppe Potato Chip House. Herbert Hollenbach, an undertaker, is chatting with Helene Schneider, a missionary, and Don- ald Shade, an accountant. Walking up to them is Iacqueline Miller. A cheer is shouted from one side of the field. Leading it are Helen Becker, a beautician, Doris Schoellkopf, dressed in an amusing costume of Elsie the Cow , Hermina Snyder, a beauty culturist, and Dorothy Merkel. Dorothy looks like Superman, but of course, she's Mighty Mouse! Giving a quiet cheer of his own, through a megaphone, is Kenneth Skinner, an electrical engineer. Directly behind me is a hen session. In it are Dorothy Strickler, Who is dressed in a Bo Peep costume, Hazel Trostle, Virginia Rebholtz, and Ianet Ohnmacht, who is flapping the ears of her costume. Yes, you've guessed it. She's Dumbo. It seems all the teachers of our class have congregated, and I believe they are discussing their most amusing experiences since they've been teachers. Among them are Benjamin Weiss, a physical ed. teacher, Mary lane Weber, and Lois Diener, kindergarten teachers, Roy Boush, an athletic coach who looks as though he has been taking a course in muscle building, and Donald Schwenk, an industrial art teacher. The classmates who have chosen a lifetime career in the armed services have attracted quite a bit of attention with their unusual occupations and uniforms, which seem new and dif- ferent at the Mardi Gras. This problem Resolved: That the Federal Government should require compulsory arbitration of labor disputes in all basic American industries was discussed by debaters of Mohnton, Perry, and Wilson High Schools at each of their respective schools. These debates, in which no decision is reached, are held in the form of panel discussions. However, the audience gets a chance to participate by asking the panel members questions which pertain to their topics. Although not as decisive as the early debates, this type of program has proved highly suc- cessful and interesting to the audience. Another program on which some members of the forensic squad participated was the Berks County Iunior Town Meeting ot the Air. Debaters who spoke on these programs were Mary lane Weber and Earl Hertzog. Other debaters were Leon Blimline, Paul Troutman, Claire Gries, Marilyn Good, lane Lin- sanbigler, Patricia Finefrock, and Nancy Brandt. Donald Heffner The third year of student government at Wilson has shown a marked improve- ment over the previous two years as students are becoming more aware of its aims and objectives. lf this sort of progressiveness is to follow, student government at Wilson will be of the best attainable. The Council's supervision of this year's magazine sales resulted in reaching the school's quota for the first time since it was inaugurated. The two prime objectives of this year-the establishment of a student activity card and a better point system for awards should both become a part of next year's program. Throughout the year the Council has also done such jobs as conducting dances, controlling activities, purchasing equipment, and solving problems that arise frequently. In addition to its annual control of the lost and found department, it was decided by this organization to revive an alumni association at Wilson.
