VARSITY FOOTB LL Back as champs, after a year's absence from the top, the Redwings returned to grab a share of the West Central League Championship. Things looked bright at the start of the season for the Redwings. Ten letter- men were returning and several fine prospects were up from an undefeated reserve team. After winning the first game the Redwings went into a slump and lost their next three games. Injuries were at least partially the cause of the inept showing of the team in those games. In mid-season, injuries cleared up and the team made a remarkable comeback. They swept through their last four games to win a share of the conference crown. 50 Back Row: Jim Phinney, Bud Moore, Keith Barrett, Douglas Knight, Max Deibert, Larry Maier, Leslie Barnes. VARSITY BASKETBALL Our basketball team had one of the most successful seasons in the history of St. Johns basketball. It compiled a record of twelve wins in fourteen games and won undisputed possession of the West Central League crown. The team is rated as a strong threat in upcoming tournaments. Things did not look bright when the season started as several regulars from last year had graduated and Doug Knight star center had lost three fingers in a farm accident. After starting slowly the team came on with a whirlwind finish in which they won their last seven games. 52 Tom and Coach St.Johns St.J0hnS St.Johns St.Johns St.Johns St.Johns St.Johns St.Johns ' st.
