,' M' ...V..,, 4 ' Varja, translated, means diamond. In this case the four sides of the diamond represent the four characteristics of this club: friendship, service, scholarship, and loyalty. CAII of which are necessary for a strong character. 2 The i982-83 Varja club members did a tremendous job at upholding their motto. They did so through activities that included candy and val-o-gram sales, a CARE booth at the Tacoma Mall, a Christmas party for Downings Elementary Deaf Wing, and a dance to raise money for scholarships. National Honor Society is an organization set up to encourage high academic achievement. All the members were required to uphold a 3.5 GPA. Along with this important objective, NHS members recognize scholarship, leadership, character, and service. With the help of the advisor, Mr. Minor. and the dedication of the members, NHS accomplished many noteworthy projects. They had four parties for Wilson 's special ed students. went Christmas caroling at rest homes, organized school picture day, sold calendars to raise money for the Association of Retarded Citizens, and sponsored the Honors Tea. Besides these worthwhile activities, NHS gave two 55CD scholarships that were raised from the selling of shammy-grams, Grandma 's cookies, and the picture packets. Club members: S.
