So, to the following, we give our admiration and thanks for making Wilson what it is today. We dedicate this book to . . . The many teachers and administrators who have served to build the academic standards we uphold. To the parents who have taught us and brought us so far and now prepare to let us go our own way. To the neighborhood where Wilson is built. With patience and support they have grown with us. To the Wilson staff and graduates who ha ve fought and died to protect the precious freedoms we often take for granted. To each and every individual who has ever tried to make Wilson a better place, cared for another person in times of need, or given a smile to someone who did not have one. For all the smiles, laughter, tears, and memories of Woodrow Wilson High School . . . To that spirit, we dedicate this book. That Spirit is you. K.F. l Staff Back-left: 5. Smith, M. Rodrigeuz, R. Who has been around Wilson since it first opened its doors in l958? Yes, you've got it-five dedicated, veteran staff members: Mr. Beer, Ms. Christensen, Mr. Sinkovich, and Mr. Sherwood. Mr. Beer, a one time member of the social studies department, and the student council advisor, is now Wil- son 's outstanding principal. Ms. Christensen not only does a terrific job as head secretary in the front office, but has been an invaluable asset to Wilson 's many clubs and sports. Mr. Sinkovich has diligently taught such courses as sopho- more and A.P. Biology, and after having taught intro. to science and physics for so long, Mr. Sherwood can certainly be termed an expert in his field. We salute these dedicated professionals for their concern and involve- ment. Mr. Hannula recently retired in l98l, but continues to coach Wilson's victo- rious boys' swim team, and has led them through 23 straight state championshqrs. 'f A dministration What is a princqral? To the average student a principal is not just another faculty member, but one who wields more power of control and punishment. This describes only a part of a principal's job. He has to make sure the school is being run correctly, everything is under controL and the proper things are being taught. He must also deal with parents, busy schedules, teachers, and student conflicts. It may be a burden, but it is a job that must be done. For Mr. Beer, this may just seem routine. For Mr. Sonntag and Mrs. Clark, being an assistant principal was a new experience. Here at Wilson we are proud to have three wonderful principals!! Thank-you Mr. Beer, Mr. Sonntag, and Mrs. Clark for your dedication to the faculty and students of Wilson High School f .. ,lx .V I 'We 4 gi- M.. ,P dvi M, Rn? .-P' it a'n3g4.. This event was a contest between the boys' varsity basketball teams from Wilson and Bellarmine. The teams polished off about forty burgers apiece! The contest consisted of two three- minute intervals in which each team member ate as many burgers as possible. The varsity cheerleaders were there to boost the morale of our athletes. They not only tied the boys bibs but also cheered for our team and kept track of our score. Bellarmine was so challenging that we tied after the two intervals so we had a tie-breaker. Two representatives from each team were chosen to wolf down as many burgers as they could in one minute. Only there was one catch: they couldn't use their hands this time! Although DUI' gUyS ga VE few small Fw best effort, the Lions won by just a M553 1 ar 4 'Ompi of iw All in all, this was such a great experience for everyone that it was even televised by Channel Il News with reporter, Tracy Barry. What if it really was your teacher who was an hour and a half late to class because he was in an accident and states reluctantly that it was his fault? Don't worry, hell still be around, he's thinking of joining the faculty. When first he decided to enroll in Wilson, some students purr-furred to have him enrolled in their homes. So twice he was taken to someone's house, and twice he returned on his own. What other choice did we have but to adopt him? Zac. the custodian who is Woody's informal keeper, cares for Woody on weekends and holidays when he is lonely. If you?'e wondering about Woody's eye, wonder no more. This is the result of a head-on collision with a deliberately thrown rock. Proceeding to the starting line, an extraordinary feeling of accomplishment comes over the runners. All the lengthy miles of training, will now be put to the test. Their hearts begin to beat faster as the starter instructs them to get into position. Bang!! Beginning the race, they have the ability and the ambition to win. It would be impossible to quit now with all of the spectators rooting them on, as if they themselves were competing. Coach Moore and Ring wait with anticipation for the outcome of the race . . . Having completed two out of the three laps, the excited crowd now cheers as they see the first runner cross the line. This Cross Country season many Wilson runners succeeded in crossing the line first and foremost. They defeated their opponents to become city champions and state contenders. Miller Bouncing was what the ball did, but for the Wilson Rams, just bouncing the ball was not their ambition. Their desire was to make the playoffs. The Hoop demonstrated this, for those games were rousing, crowd stomping competitions with Wilson taking second. Wilson was then a prime contender for the playoffs. During the many games played throughout the season, Wilson lost the enthusiasm they had at the Hoop . However, spirit and sportsmenship between team members never was sacrificed. Many times after they fought back, they did not get the breaks that would add to their victories. -5,4 ,, , y , ' . iifei-ga' 3 ..,......-.-.-,-- Wissm 'I ml,- Mm f 6 I. sax 123 'hkj -6--4 Number I3, do you happen to have the time! 2.
