JUNIOR RED CROSS We Serve, is a good motto for the Junior Red Cross which undertakes many service projects throughout the year. Main objective of the group is to build friendship and understanding between peoples of the world through volunteer help from high school students. The Red Cross drive was very successful this year with the amount contributed greater than the goal set. Members of the group decorated at hospitals in St. Paul for the holiday seasons and sang at Hastings State Hospital. Advisor for the group is Miss Kachel. Officers include Bob Thul, president, Jim Pewters, vice president, and Nancy Carlson, secretary. LATIN CLUB Strains of f'Adeste Fidelisu echoed through Wilson halls as the Romani Hodierni carried on the annual tradition of the Wilson Latin Club, Christmas caroling in the halls. The Saturnalia party, slave auctions, and the Roman Banquet were other high- lights of the club's busy year. Initiation of new members found many Wilson students attending school with their hair in odd styles, two different shoes, and wearing signs which no one could translate. Entertainment is provided and re- freshments are served. At the Christmas party this year, the members learned about Christ- mas in Germany. Once or twice a year the Wilson G.A.A. invites girls from other schools to a playday. ln turn Wilson girls are invited to some of the other schools. Through partici- pation in these school year activities, each girl earns points towards her letter. lf by her jun- ior or senior year a girl has earned one thousand points, she will receive her letter. Seniors who have earned their letters have an opportunity to work towards their all-city emblem. To receive this emblem she must earn five hundred points. Wilson's band, under the direction of Emmett A. Doc Raymond, has had a busy schedule this year. During the summer the band marched in the Minneapolis Aquatcnnial Grand Parade and the torchlight parade. Again this year they presented half-time shows at several of the football games. The band also presented a pre-Christmas concert with the aid of the choir for the entire school. VARSITY FOOTBALL Coach Fitzharris had only nine seniors on the 1957 varsity squad, and the lack of experience proved costly in several games. Seniors Marty Jur- gensen, Chuck Hadrich, Lyle Green, Dennis John- son, Pat Padden, Jim Elledge, Joc Mandell, Bill Howard, and Ted Hunziker played their last game for the Redmen. A promising crop of sophomores headed by Carl Borgstrom, Bill Anderson, Bob Elliot, Mike Cullen and Pat Fitzgerald were helped by a year's experi- ence. Offensively, the team showed they could score, being blanked only once, and Coach Fitz and his aide Mr. Sokol hope the defense will improve in '58 with the added experience which the boys received this year. :Q scones A f- I -W 1 p WILSON OPPONENTS ' X ,A X 19 Murray ....... ...40 B qQ,, y ...fr - , xx, ,, f ii 6 Mechanic Arts . . . . .33 -.
