Ol live events entered, a first was scored in one, second in three, and lhird in one. These awards were in the nature of a triumph for the music department, which has been growing and improving steadily. Al- 'rhough lhe department is only 'Four years old, il' has acquired instru- ments valued at more than 5800, uniforms, and a much-enlarged library of music. ll has grown from one organization, an orchestra, lo six: concert and marching bands, junior band and beginners' classes, orchestra, choir, and iunior choir. The department is headed by Mr. Eli Barnett, who is assisted by the officers of the various organizations. A recent addition to the department is lhe Music Boosters' Club, which has pledged itself to assist in the buying of uniforms, robes, and anything else which is needed. The purpose of the department is lo instill a better appreciation for line music in the student body, and provide music for school activities. ll also presents an annual concert every spring. While the club is open only to juniors and seniors, its one hundred titty members make it one ot the largest in Wilson l-tigh School. The meetings are held on Tuesday atternoons. Money raising activities constitute a major share ot the club's work. ln addition to selling tootball tickets to the Central and Murray tootball games, the club sponsored a pop-corn sale in October. A dance, appropriately called the Log Jam, was held on November 28. Other money raising activities included the sale ot basketball tickets to the games with Monroe and Mechanic Arts. To advertise the Log among the students, a Truth and Conseguencesn assembly was held on November 26. Six taculty members participated an to the students' delight, each had to take the consequences. The work ot the subscription drive was divided among thirty-one home room representatives who sold over nine hundred books, the largest sale in the history ot Wilson High School. Miss Ruth Hedman directed the business activities ot the club and Mr. Oscar Haugh the editorial work.
