His new job was tough as he sought to rebuild the band program beginning with only 17 members. During these past 6 years, he has touched the lives of many students and developed in them a deeper appreciation for music. Mr. Johnson has the ability to bring out the best from his students and they have been able to gain recognition in local and state levels. In acknowledgement of his untiring efforts in behalf of the students of days gone by and in gratitude for his help to the present students at Wilson and those future students as well, the annual staff proudly dedicates this yearbook to Mr. Larry Johnson. 3 The Wilson Paula Steele-Organizations Staff Brian lerkins-Editor Lesa McCauley-Ass’t. Journalism With the close of the 1982-83 school year, the printer’s ink dried on another volume of the Wilson High School newspaper. The 25-member staff, composed of Mrs. Ann Muncy's high school journalism class, produced 10 editions of The Eagle’s Voice during the year. As always, the goal of the staff was to inform, entertain, and at times to persuade through the printed word. But even more, the staff wished to provide all students with a convenient vehicle for self-expression in poetry, prose and art. The Eagle’s Voice is your school newspaper and we hope you have enjoyed it. — The Staff Mrs. Muncy proudly displays an edition of the paper. After two weeks of conditioning and learning new skills, the Eagles played two scrimmages and showed improvement after each. The time then came which everyone was waiting for, opening game. Playing on a new field added to the excitement already present. During the past two and-a-half seasons the Eagles had lost twenty-four consecutive games, but the past was forgotten after the team defeated the Empire Bulldogs 30-0. The next two games saw the Eagles fall to defeat. But the team, once again, had something to prove as they traveled to Stratford and defeated them at their homecoming, 19-0. The remaining six games saw the Eagles lose, but none were lost without a tough battle. Many would think after a 2-8 season, not much could be said for this team. But at the onset of the season, the team concerned themselves with two main goals: to win at last five games and to regain respect from everyone. The Eagles fell short of the first goal, which timely breaks could have changed, but the team did earn respect by their hardplaying and sportsmanship. Coaches, officials, and spectators alike had good things to say about the Eagles. Now that a new beginning has been established, the future teams will work hard to build on that which has already been started, bringing back that good ol’ Eagle Pride. 1982 Final Statistics Total Rushing 1458 yds. Life is queer, with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won if he’d stuck it out; Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow-You may succeed with one more blow. Success is failure turned inside out -The silver tint of the clouds of doubt -And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit - It’s when things seem worst that YOU MUSTN’T QUIT. 137 WARDS HARDWARE Compliments of Bea And Bo 604 N.E. 5th Wilson, OK. 73463 Phone- 668-2446 Colvert Dairy Products Co.
