Ij( 4q fiecJcn FOREWORD Although the halls of WHS look the same as they did fifty years ago, many feet have trod the corridors, contributing to the growth and development of the school. The laughter of students has bounced and echoed through the halls, but the quiet of classes hard at work has also crept through the halls. The personalities of these students have seeped into WHS to create a unique character - a mixture of the good, the fun-loving, the eager, and the studious. WHS has matured in both personality and curriculum. A spirited interest in our world and a driving need to answer the challenge of the adult world have demanded that the course of study be improved from that of fifty years ago. In addition each freshman class enters to obtain as much as is possible from WHS. Upon graduating that same class takes a part of WHS with it; but WHS retains more than has been taken away. After fifty years, WHS has grown to its present commanding stature with grace and dignity. A YEAR TO REMEMBER 1971 EAGLE PUBLISHED BY THE YEARBOOK STAFF OF WILSON HIGH SCHOOL WILSON, OKLAHOMA CONTENTS DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY CLASSES ORGANIZATIONS SPORTS ROYALTY HONORS ADVERTISING DEDICATION Mr. O’Connor received his B.A. in Philosophy and M.S, in Education from Nebraska State College at Kearney, Nebraska. He has a total of 20 years’ teaching experience. He came to Wilson in 1965. Mr. O’Connor has been faithful to the football teams and basketball teams by keeping statistics during the games. He also sponsors the Student Council, the Math Klub, and the Senior Class. Through the years to come we will all remember Mr. O’Connor’s math classes and the outstanding job he has done. To you, Mr. O’Connor, we the Annual Staff proudly dedicate the 1971 Eagle. FACULTY SCHOOL BOARD SEATED: Mr. C. L. Wood, Vice-President; Mr. R. B. Brown, Clerk; Mr. J. Wesley Hull, Superintendent. (NOT SHOWN: Mr. Robert Lyle, President). STANDING: Mr. Ronald Shores, Member; Mr. M. M. Clark, Member. SECRETARIES MRS. BARBARA ROBERTSON Superintendent's Secretary i MRS. LYNDAL BEAVER Principal's Secretary Dear Students, ™ Thank you, the sponsors and the annual staff, for your efforts in combining the experiences of the Wilson Student Body into an annual that will remain a treasure for many years. It will, through pictures and writings, hold many memories of school days with friends and classmates. We must also remember that education of today is a greater challenge than ever before in the history of our nation. You have seen men travel through space and walk on the moon. As you become the leaders and directors of our nation, you will have a greater responsibility than any other generation has ever had. Through the cooperative efforts of the Board of Education, parents, and teachers, we will provide you with the best education possible. You will find that it will be a necessity. Thanking you again, we hope that you have had a pleasant and constructive school year. Sincerely, J. Wesley Hull Superintendent Dear Students: MR BILL DUNSWORTH High School Principal B.S. and M.S. in Business M.S. in Administration General Business - Bookkeeping - Secretarial Training - Senior Class The 1971 yearbook preserves for you the memories of another year at Wilson High School. I hope, as do all of your teachers, that this has been a very happy and profitable year for each of you. There are many memories of this year that will only be called to your mind by your yearbook. In turn, each of us on the faculty will have many personal thoughts called to our minds when we turn through the pages of this excellent book. For many of you the 1970-71 school year is one of many attended at Wilson; for others it has been a new experience to attend classes in this building. I believe that each year we work together as a faculty and student body, more harmony and understanding are shared. Each of you has made a fine contribution to promoting this growth. I hope each succeeding school year brings good things into your life. Sincerely, Bill Dunsworth Principal Dear Students: Aim for a goal in life and always strive toward that goal. An education makes any goal easier to achieve. Perhaps this statement will have little meaning now, but as you progress in life, you will find it more meaningful. May each of you find the key to success. Sincerely, L. A. Robertson, Jr. Principal MR L. A. ROBERTSON, JR Elementary Principal B.S. and Masters in Education Sixth Grade W. G. Through this year many things have come and gone. Although each year contains the good and the bad, this year the good has out-weighed the bad in all cases. Homecomings, Senior portraits, athletics, plays, honors, and all other events have been portrayed in this yearbook. We would like to acknowledge our advertisers for their advertising and support in the production of our 1971 Eagle. Our special thanks go to Miss Carolyn Kennedy, our sponsor, for helping to make this yearbook the best possible. Other thanks go to the staff, faculty, administration, and students, for without them this yearbook would not be possible. Working on the yearbook has been an experience which will be long remembered. We think that this yearbook, the 1971 Eagle, will give a true example of what a typical year at Wilson High School has been. We have worked long hours and put our best efforts into this book to make it a memorable one for you. Meredith and Philip GREAT FLOODS HAVE FLOWN FROM SIMPLE SOURCES.
