FOREWORD to the Student Body and Faculty of Wilson High School: We seek in life An existence which has clarity. We search for sharply outlined concepts To guide our developments. We look to the solid elements Of our existence for security. We wander about in a hazy world, Groping aimlessly, Until we touch something concrete. Our fingers grasp tightly The firm definite edges. The edges that give us feelings of stability; For a time we withdraw, Content To enjoy our security, Just part of a crowd. Before long, however, We hazard another glance Out into the world. To our surprise, We no longer look into a haze, But instead, We see a number of shapes Developing before us. Blacks and whites Begin to separate themselves into groups, Adding clarity to our existence. Around the newly developing shapes, We can detect the faintest hints of edges.

With cautious, halting steps, We emerge from our niche in security, To cast hurried glances at our world. For a moment, we pause, asking, “Why am I here?” From all around us come answers. Answers which help define our existence. Surprisingly, these answers are not fuzzy, But distinctly outlined and set apart. From half-truths and fallacious ideas We begin to understand why And for what we exist. In our own minds, We begin to sort ideas logically, Casting off muddled ideas and Studying those having meaning. Finally, we seek To separate ourselves, To place an edge Around our personalities. We strive to become individuals, Unique beings, With distinct features. We determine for ourselves a goal Around which we center our plans — Whether or not we reach our goal, We are a success, For we have contributed our own Ffard Edges To society and life. We have found the clarity in our existence. 1 It has been a long, eventful year. There have been many things taking place in the making of this yearbook. In appreciation of all the heartaches, laughter, work, play, tedium, variety, and fun, the 1968 Eagle’s Voice staff would like to take this opportunity to humbly and sincerely say “THANK YOU”
