ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Each time that we enroll one hundred children in our first grade, we look at them and wonder; Will it be you? For we know that over this nation there will be thirty children from each one hundred enrolled that will never don the cap and gown. They are the dropouts. From these thirty children will come most of our delinquents. From these thirty children, on the most part, will be the ones for which we will build our institutions for correction. Yet, we know that there is an average of more than twenty per cent of the children enrolled who do not have the ability to master grammar, mathematics, and the sciences. However, they must sit in a classroom six hours a day, one hundred and eighty days each year comprehending very little of what is being taught. What choice do we expect them to make? How long will it be before the people of this nation will demand and be willing to pay for a course of study that will meet the needs of these youngsters and offer them what is necessary for them to become useful and prosperous citizens?
