jsfiewm The Yearbook Staff takes great pride in presenting to you THE EAGLES VOICE of 1957. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the patrons and the faculty of the school for helping make this annual possible. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Pass, our sponsor, for being so much help to us. We hope as you turn through these pages they will leave memories and love in your heart for your school days in Wilson High School. YEARBOOK STAFF dedication In Appreciation of the things you have done for our school, student body, faculty, and community in providing for them some of the facilities that make the athletic program more effective and for presenting an incentive for better citizenship among the youth, we dedicate the 1957 issue of The Eagle's Voice to the Wilson Quarterback Club. THE YEARBOOK STAFF A TRIBUTE Mrs. Jennye S. Jones, one of our loveliest and most faithful teachers, was chosen from Carter County as Teacher of the Year in September, 1956. The following poem, written by a fellow teacher was written as a tribute to her: Just sweet and calm, ambitious and God-fearing, Especially interested in children and their rearing: No task too hard for her to attack, Never grumbling, never looking back. Young in heart, too devoted foi wearying, Each unselfish act makes her more endearing. She loves each child, helps him to reach his goal, Conscientious about his life and immortal soul; Only asking to serve in her humble way, Trusting and helping some child from day to day; Teacher, Leader, Friend-and worth her weight in gold! Just the one to honor as Teacher of the Year , Our lives have been made richer, having her near. No teacher has given more to education, Enriching lives with love and consecration: Sincerely we pay grateful homage to one so dear. Jewell Lasley tyea ileei Queen J. C. NICHOLS Woodrow Hulme, Auditor Dear Annual Staff: Sujiefiintenaent 's I have been thinking of our land and our people, and the great part Opportunity plays in the development of each of our lives. Opportunity in life presents each of us with these choices to use our talents and our worldly possessions: we may selfishly use them; we may lavishly waste them; or we may intelligently and spiritually use them. Someone has said that there are four things which will not come back to us - the spoken word, the sped arrow, time lost, and neglected opportunity. In our lives, let us use Opportunity to see how much we can give - not how much we can get; how much we have done - not how much we have won; how much we have loved and served -not how much we are honored. Too often we limit ourselves when Opportunity presents itself to us. We must say to Opportunity I Can! and I Will! if we better our lives and our land. Following is a very wonderful poem on OPPORTUNITY With doubt and dismay you are smitten, You think there's no chance for you, son? Why, the best books haven't been written, The best race hasn't been run, The best score hasn’t been made yet, The best song hasn't been sung. The best tune hasn't been played yet: Cheer up, for the world is young. No chance? Why, the world is just eager For things that you ought to create. Its store of true wealth is still meager, Its needs are incessant and great; Don't worry and fret, faint hearted, The chances have just begun For the best jobs haven’t been started The best work hasn't been done. Berton Braley You boys and girls of the 1957 Annual Staff have and are making the most of the Opportunity to create and produce wonderful memories of your school days for yourselves and those of your classmates who will follow in your footsteps. Congratulations to All of You! Sincerely yours, H. D. Gound Dear Yearbook Staff: Perhaps America's major contribution to civilization has been her free public schools. You are fortunate that you live in a land where education is yours... if you take advantage of your opportunities. Apply yourself at all times so that you will achieve maximum results. In today’s schools we strive for more than the ”3 R's”. We wish to develop qualities of leadership, social qualities, and emotional stability. In short, the modern schools in America strive to turn out a well-rounded individual, one who can take his place in an adult society. Elementally pnincijial'$ Oft essaye Dear Yearbook Staff: Statisticians tell us that on a yearly basis the average American spends his time in the following manner: Sleep four months, work three months, eat and dress one month, travel to and from the job three weeks, leisure time three months and one week. This is our leisure time-fund for investment. It's a big time-fund. It's an impressive life-fund. Let's plan to invest this time that it will bring us the largest possible dividends.
