Foreword The annual staff of 1956 takes great pleasure in presenting to you The Eagle's Voice. We would like to thank the faculty, student body, and townspeople for their co-operation. We would also like to thank Mrs. Jessie Pass, our sponsor, who has helped make this annual possible. We hope that as you turn through the pages of this annual, that love and remembrance of the school days in Wilson Public School, will be instilled in your hearts. THE ANNUAL STAFF Elementary Building Gymnasium Dedication In appreciation of the many things that you have done for us, our school, and our community, we respectively dedicate to you, the clubs and other organizations of Wilson, the 1956 edition of the Eagle' Voice In Memory Vernon Straughn Barry Robinson On the afternoon of June 14, 1955, and again on the evening of Oct. 19, 1955, the town of Wilson and the entire community was shocked and saddened by the tragic deaths of Barry Robinson and Vernon Straughn. Barry was killed in an oil field accident shortly after having completed his sophomore year at Oklahoma A. M. College. Vernon was killed in an automobile accident enroute to Wichita Falls. Both men were graduates of the Wilson High School -- Barry in the Class of '53 and Vernon in the Class of '32. At the time of his death the latter was serving as Home Room Dad for the present senior class of which his son, Glenn, is a member. Both men were loved and highly esteemed by former classmates, teachers, and their many friends. Board Of Education TC THE STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND PATRONS OF THE WILSON SCHOOLS -GREETINGS: Time Marches On, another milestone in our educational process has passed not to be recalled. We trust that we have applied ourselves to the very best advantage as students, instructors, patrons, and members of the Board of Education to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that will enable us to fulfill our mission in life to the fullest degree. Our commendations and congratulations to the graduating seniors of this year, to the annual staff and sponsor, Mrs. Pass, for this another splendid annual. May we say, Thank you, to everyone who has had a part in making this a very successful and happy school year. And, when in the passing years we look through the pages of this 1955-56 Eagle's Voice, our hearts will be lifted up with pride and joy by the accomplishments of these young men and women whose names and faces are imprinted therein. Our faculty will share in this commendation because of their interest and untiring efforts to help you purchase with your precious time, not knick-knacks, but those qualities of character that will enable you to meet every issue and crisis of life. May life’s richest rewards and God s choicest blessings be upon those who strive to make it so. Superintendent Dear Annual Staff: It seems that time rolls around about as fast for writing my annual message for the Eagle's Voice as it used to do for spring gardening, and I have never been very well prepared for either. We have just begun a New Year (1956) and many of us have made resolutions. Some we will keep and some we will break. I have made a few that I shall strive to keep--that of making life more pleasant for those around me. I have resolved to have more faith in God and more confidence in my fellow man, and to try, at all times, to have a sunny disposition. I have a Rotarian friend who visits our club quite often. Each time after signing his name to our register, he adds the letters S.S.A. (Sunny Side of the Arbuckles.) This person feels that the Sunny Side of the Arbuckles is a very fine place to live. He enjoys his friends and makes people whom he meets feel that they, too, are in a sunny and friendly clime. It is my hope that you who give of your time and effort to produce this book of memories may inspire us and all who read our annual to forever try to keep on the sunny side of life. May we always be ready to help those who have had less sunshine in their lives than we have had, so that they, too, like my friend, may add the letters S.S.A. after their names. Sincerely yours, —7— High School Principal Congratulations to our annual staff and the sponsor, Mrs. Jessie Pass, on being able to illustrate to us so ably some of the events of the past school year. They have been a very fine group to work with in our school. The recent White House Conference on Education has helped focus the eyes of the nation on our schools. The more interest that is created in the works and products of our schools, the more likely are we to see improvements initiated. Our future greatness or failure will be attributed to our youth of today. We as parents, citizens, and teachers should do some serious thinking on how we may help our youth and their schools do a better job. Without more help our schools cannot keep pace with the constant demand for better living in today's modern world. You can help by being interested and well informed on the problems facing our own schools and children in the Wilson Community. Sincerely, Elementary School Principal Dear Annual Staff: You have been building for your future all through these years that you have been in school. The bricks of knowledge have been laid one by one in your building of life since the day you entered the first grade. Your building can be only as strong as the weakest brick indt. You may expect to reach the age of seventy years according to statistical reports . Eighteen of these years will be used in gaining a high school education and possibly four more will be used in college. These twenty-two years will decide whether you will construct a building which will stand up through the remaining forty-eight or will crumble to the ground with the first test of its strength.
