Some of the friends of the school have made possible the improvement of our play ground equipment. Mr, Jim Doughty and others of the Westheimer-Newstadt Oil Company constructed and donated to the school two metal bicycle racks and two horizontal ladders. Others contributed steel pipe which was used in making other equipment. This year- we made the beginning on a school-wide testing program.Standard achievement tests were administered to each pupil in the school. These are only beginnings - one step on the road to improvement of the total school program. The continued progress of the school will depend upon the same thing which has made these things possible - the cooperation of all the teachers, the P. T. A., the Board of Education, and all the friends of the school who are interested in the improvement of education. 1 H ¥

Fifth Grade SOUTH WARD Durirg this year the South Ward has made a little progress toward a better organized program and a better equipped building and grounds. It has required the cooperation of the teachers, the P. T. A., the Board of Education, and other friends of the school. The P. T. A. released the sponsorship of the Hot Lunch Program and it was taken over by the Board of Education. The location of the lunchroom was moved and some new equipment purchased. The assistance given by the Federal and State governments have made it possible to serve an average of about 200 children each day with a tasty hot lunch at a very low cost. Early in the year the P. T. A. sponsored an allschool carnival. Part of the proceeds of the carnival was used to purchase a tachistoscope to be used in our reading program. This machine will assist in inproving our reading and it is planned that the use of this machine will be the basis for the development of an audio-education program.
