Center Post-Season f ' Honors I, 39 THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL My mind had wandered , the game had been so boring. My thoughts collected slowly. and , as my mind cleared, I became aware of a dull roar in my ears. Then I realized the band director was glaring at me. Ihad missed the horns up again. I looked down the field just as it happened - A boy went over the line for a touchdown. The dull roar became a screaming crescendo. We were ahead! My mind became suddenly alert: I began to watch the game closely. One player after another came in for a rest, Quietly waiting by the sidelines for water. Their replacements looked just as tired as they. As we came down to the last minute of the game . I realized suddenly that these boys Had been playing a larger, heavier team for nearly two hours! They were exhausted, But from somewhere they were still finding the strengthg The strength to hold off the opposition. They had given more than their best.
