To preserve always the events of our years together in high school, we offer this hook of memories. Cherish it, and the ideals it represents, with the hope that some day we may all be reunited. This occasions rehearsing with a ring he happens to have--- a ring that one girl is wearing and another girl is promised, and an- other girl wants. A'But you'll get in trouble, little boy. says Marian, his sister, if you give a ring to more than one girl at a time. Tommy finds this too truel His chum, Billy Martin, rather enjoys the excitement. When Evelyn. Tommy's best girl, arrives on the scene, it looks bad. But every- thing is all right, and everybody goes home to dinner, much to Mr. Tuttle's relief. Characters: Douglas Ralston as Tommy: Helen Wolff as Bertha: Clara Simonsen as Marian: Dar- rell Webb as Billy: Lenore Larsen as Mrs. Tuttle: Carol Primus as Clair: Clara Mahannah as Doris. and Beverly johnson as Evelyn. BUT NOW THERE'S BUFORD A thirteen-year-old girl and her two chums dip into an older sis- ter's love affair. In their adoles- cent minds, Lenore is jilting Bu- ford in favor of Bill: so they lay elaborate plans to right the wrong. But after a forged note. a brush-off treatment to Bill, and a great deal of trouble all the way around, it seems that Buford was calling chiefly because of the refreshments habitually served . . . Roberta, subconsciously enjoying the tragedy of the moment, climbs to new dramatic heights. The world lives and crawls and dies in misunderstandings. And she is off with Buford for a chocolate malt-with cynicism in her soul. Characters: lean Schalekamp as Lenore: Ann Spinharney as Roberta: lanet Rhea as Elizabeth: Io Ann Brown as Kitty: Ted An- drews as Bill, and Dick Glasson as Buford. LADIES OF THE MOP The characters are scrubwomen who work in a theater. Theres Annie, a faded. iluttery woman. who has not lost her dream of the stage: Mattie, a sober, unimagina- tive soul whose toneless voice re- flects her matter-of-factness: Hal- lie, a robust person, loud and full of energy: and Bessie, tall and dig- nified--the sole admirer of her own voice. As Annie and Mattie mop in rhythm, they gossip. They are soon joined by Hallie, who enters from the auditorium, contributes her morsel of news, and joins in the mopping. Then Bessie, with her mop and pail, joins the trio. Annie proposes that they entertain themselves while they eat their midnight snack. The outcome is a song for Bessie, a dance for Hal- lie, a piano number for Mattie, and a melodramatic reading for Annie. When. following a disagreement. all four perform simultaneously . . . well, it has to he seen to be appreciated. Characters: Lois Simpson as Mattie: Delores Brown as Annie: Iune Nash as Hallie, and Patricia Nonken as Bessie. Page fill IUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS CHARLES LIGHT .... President IUANITA BE'r11RE . . As we enter we discover that it is the 'iliig Carnival . The gym was gaily decorated with many different hooths of skill and all sorts of games. A popular and interesting attraction was the heauty parlor just try their new look . Anglers could go fishing in the fish pond and, if lucky, catch a worth-while prize. VVestern Union girls were on duty for those who had to send messages. You could even shoot a game of golf if you could find someone who wasnt doing something else. Ar eight or nine o'clock everyone went upstairs to the minstrel show. Songs, music, jokes. made the minstrel show one of the main events of the evening. After the show we waited for the drawing to he held. since there were a turkey and a ham to he given away and also the door prize. Does Cherokee Public Schools own at World War plane like this one in the pic- ture? Yes, indeed, this is our own plane purchased by students and the school board for educational purposes. lt Hrestsn at the local airport. The girls in Big Sisters' Organization have a lot of fun as they entertain the high school assembly at a pep meeting. Ill :ge 5-I X 1 ATHLETICSl ig 'S CHEERLE DERS Much credit goes to these faithful Mpepper-uppers for they gave VVilson High the pep and school spirit that sped them on to victory. The cheerleaders assumed complete responsi- lwility for the pep meetings. They also spent considerable time practicing and introducing new yells. These girls took care of miscellaneous duties, such as handing out game programs, chang- ing game advertising signs, arranging track awards. etc. Our thanks also go to them for deco- rating the assembly for the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and Tomahawk Relays Queen. These loyal lassies followed the teams to every game and ahly represented Cherokee at all sports events. The cheerleaders this year were: Mary Dugan lhead cheerleaderl, Delores lensen, llinny VVise, loan Spinharney, and Ann Meloy. The newly selected girls who made up a part of the group were lietty l.ingle, Sharon Fuhrman, and Louise Bong. Their faculty advisor was Miss Shirley Dailey. FGOTBALL HO ORS IACK NORTH, Sports Editor of the Des Mcvines Register, honored six of Cherokee's grid stars on his 1947 All-State grid teams. Four of these six were placed on teams and the other two received honorable men- tion. Those mentioned were: BILL MCDONALD: end, senior, 5' 11 and 165 lbs., made the first team. Bill's outstanding blocking and tackling plus his uncanny ability to call plays earned for him the respect of his team-mates and opposing players and also the honor of being an all-stateru. DON GREEN: back, senior, 5' 7 and 145 lbs., made the second team. Don's speed and tricky running made him one of the most feared backs in Iowa. Don scored 84 points in the '47 season and many of those came from jaunts of more than 50 yards. DEAN DEUEL: back, senior, 5' 10 and 145 lbs.. made the third team. Dean, another speedster, supplied another part of Cherokee's scoring punch. Using his speed to great advantage he scored 99 points in the 1947 season with many coming from hair-raising runs plus his ability to kick conversions. Deuel was also named on the IDPA First All-State Team. GORDON ABELS: tackle, 6' 1 and 185 lbs., was named to the sixth team. Gordy's massive strength and power plus his blocking and tack- ling ability gave his opponents much sorrow and fear. When 'AGordy hit them they knew it. BOB LARSON: center, 5' 11 and 175 lbs., was given honorable men- tion. Bob, an excellent center, proved that he could do more than center the ball when he opened holes in opposing lines and stopped opposing backs cold without any gain. Bob was really rough , LYLE MINKLER: guard, 5' 8 and 160 lbs., also received honorable mention. Lyle, through his hard work and love for the game, cut down opposing ball carriers quickly and also cut down would-be tacklers to help make Cherokee have its second undefeated season in a row. Lyle is tough as they come: just ask some of the boys he played against! Page G4 BASKETBALL ,V XLJ f X f X! Ni J f , f , I lg ' .
